Department: Central Supply
Reports To: Director of Housekeeping and Corporate VP of Procurement & Supply Chain Services

Job Summary

The Central Supply Technician is responsible for receiving, cleaning, sterilizing, storing, and distributing medical supplies and over-the-counter medications to all units. This position helps ensure that all units and departments have the necessary sterile equipment, medications, and supplies for resident care when needed.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain adequate inventory of medical supplies and over-the-counter medications.

  • Monitor stock levels and identify items that need to be reordered.

  • Place supply and OTC medication orders using the facility's computer system.

  • Enter orders accurately and verify quantities, product information, and delivery details.

  • Receive, check, and properly store incoming supplies and medications.

  • Check expiration dates and rotate inventory as appropriate.

  • Maintain accurate inventory records in the computer system.

  • Distribute supplies and OTC medications to authorized departments and staff.

  • Follow facility policies regarding the storage and handling of medications and medical supplies.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked Central Supply area.

  • Maintain accurate records of equipment checks and inventory.

  • Stock and distribute clean/working oxygen concentrators and compressor nebulizers to nursing units as requested.

  • Pick up dirty or non-working oxygen concentrators and compressor nebulizers from all units.

  • Inspect oxygen concentrators and compressor nebulizers for cleanliness, function, and damage. Report any damaged equipment to the Maintenance Director for repair immediately.

  • Check the front desk regularly for incoming deliveries, packages, and supplies.

  • Receive and verify deliveries to ensure the correct items and quantities were received.

  • Maintain accurate records of received deliveries and update inventory as required.

  • Follow and prioritize the department's daily schedule, assigned tasks, and established procedures to ensure the smooth, efficient, and timely operation of the Central Supply department.

  • Demonstrate reliability, time-management skills, and the ability to complete daily responsibilities within established timeframes.

  • Communicate promptly with the Director regarding delays, supply shortages, urgent requests, or any issues that may affect department operations.

  • Follow nursing home infection-control, safety, and regulatory standards.

  • Handle contaminated equipment using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Remove all boxes from the Central Supply room and hallways at the end of the shift.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment. Sweep and mop the Central Supply room every Wednesday.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Knowledge of commonly used over-the-counter medications and their general uses.

  • Computer proficient, with the ability to enter information accurately and place supply orders using a computer-based ordering system.

  • Ability to learn and use inventory and purchasing software.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Good organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to monitor inventory and recognize when supplies need to be reordered.

  • Good communication, rapid responsiveness, and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Previous experience in healthcare, central supply, pharmacy, or a similar setting is strongly preferred.

  • Inventory Management and/or Pharmacy certification strongly preferred.

  • Must be able to read, speak, and write English and follow simple written and oral instructions.

Important Requirement

The employee must follow all facility policies and applicable laws regarding OTC medications. Knowledge of medications does not authorize the employee to diagnose conditions, recommend treatment, or provide clinical medication advice outside the scope of their role.

Work Environment

The position requires regular computer use, inventory management, lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, stretching, moving supplies, and communication with healthcare staff and vendors. The employee must maintain confidentiality, safety, cleanliness, and organization within the Central Supply department.
