Acme Machining

Job Description

Job Description
Role Overview

Step onto our second shift and take ownership of large-diameter, high-value parts on advanced CNC vertical turret lathes. You’ll independently set up complex jobs, dial in offsets, and hold tight tolerances for aerospace, defense, and industrial customers—without needing constant direction. If vertical turning is your craft and precision is your standard, this is where your expertise makes an immediate impact.

A Day in the Life
  • Review engineering drawings, GD&T, routers, and travelers to plan the setup.
  • Select and install the right tooling, inserts, fixtures, and workholding for the job.
  • Load the workpiece, align, and verify workholding; set work and tool offsets.
  • Run initial passes, monitor feeds/speeds, and make offset adjustments to lock in tolerances.
  • Perform in-process checks with micrometers, bore gauges, and dial indicators; use CMM where applicable.
  • Troubleshoot machine alarms, resolve tooling wear or surface finish issues, and keep parts moving.
  • Complete first-article documentation, production records, and any non-conformance reports as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, 5S work area and uphold quality standards throughout the run.
  • Hand off seamlessly to day shift—sharing insights and status to ensure continuity.
  • Cross-train and contribute to a culture of knowledge transfer as the operation scales.
What You Bring
  • 5+ years hands-on CNC VTL experience with large-diameter components.
  • Proven ability to perform full setups independently (beyond operator-only duties).
  • Fluency in reading blueprints and interpreting GD&T.
  • Strong inspection skills for turned parts using precision measurement tools.
  • Ability to consistently work second shift.
Preferred Background
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or heavy industrial manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with FANUC controls.
  • Exposure to AS9100 or ISO quality systems.
  • Success with large, low-volume, high-mix machining.
Why Join Us
  • Competitive hourly pay tied to your experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits: medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
  • Stability and growth from a company with 70+ years of history and long-term ownership mindset.
  • Real development opportunities—we build careers, not headcount.
