FMI is seeking a Composite Operator I – High Temp to join our manufacturing team. This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of high-temperature furnaces, ovens, and related equipment, including loading and unloading materials, monitoring equipment during operation, and supporting the overall production process. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and experience working with industrial or manufacturing equipment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Follow work instructions, production procedures, specifications, safety requirements, diagrams, and schedules.
- Fabricate, process, inspect, and package composite materials while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
- Operate production equipment, including furnaces, ovens, and presses; perform loading, unloading, startup, and shutdown activities.
- Monitor equipment and processes, respond to issues, and participate in troubleshooting and continuous improvement activities.
- Inspect materials and perform quality checks using scales, calipers, gauges, and other measuring tools.
- Record inspection results and complete required computer entries, production records, equipment logs, and safety and quality documentation.
- Safely move materials using hoists, electric pallet jacks, and other approved material-handling equipment.
- Perform routine light equipment maintenance and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Work safely in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving equipment, fumes, airborne particles, loud noise, heights, chemicals, electrical hazards, and vibration.
- Cross-train and assist coworkers to support a flexible, team-oriented production environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What We Need From You:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 1+ year of manufacturing or related experience preferred; composites, textiles, or similar manufacturing experience is a plus.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and attention to detail.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn equipment operation, troubleshooting, and production processes.
- Ability to understand and follow written, verbal, diagram, and schedule-based instructions.
- Basic math, measurement, computer, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, reach, use hands, and lift or move up to 25 pounds; occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds and climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring close and color vision and wear required PPE, including a respirator.
