JOB SUMMARY: This role analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand toolsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Work from blueprints, drawings, layouts or other specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating dies or assembliesVisualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes and tolerances of assemblies, based upon specificationsSet up and operate conventional machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, CNC machines and grinders to cut, bore, grind or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishesFile, grind, shim and adjust different parts to properly fit them togetherFit and assemble parts, repair or modify dies, gauges and tools using machine tools and hand toolsInspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity and defectsLift, position, and secure machine parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, V-blocks or angle platesMeasure, mark, and scribe metal or plastic stock to lay out machining, using instruments such as protractors, micrometers, scribes and rulersCut, shape, and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shears, rulers and hand toolsDesign jigs, fixtures and templates for use as work aids in the fabrication of parts or productsAssist in die changes, first piece approvalDrive a forklift and/or operate overhead crane to transport dies as well as other heavy equipmentAdditional duties with similar responsibilities may be assigned as necessaryEMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)Minimum 5 years' experience with die repair or new buildPreferred experience in a production environmentJourneyman's card in tool and die making or machining, with deep draw die experience preferred, not requiredWelding experience preferred, not requiredBasic knowledge of mathematicsPHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Able to stand/walk for the duration of shift (8+ hours)Able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted.Able to perform frequent repetitive motions.Able to withstand noisy environment.TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:NoneMust be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screen (including THC)
