Job Title: Quality Technician Location: St. Louis, MO Type: Direct Hire Work Model: Onsite – onsite

Overview System One is seeking a Quality Technician (or Engineer) to support our client's structural steel fabrication facility in the St. Louis, MO area.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with engineering, construction, management, clients, and inspectors on quality and welding concerns at project sites and/or shop.
  • Utilize quality programs including the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) to monitor project quality.
  • Implement quality assurance/quality control programs and review quality requirements from owners, manufacturers, and engineers.
  • Manage quality document submittals, including inspections, reports, and project-specific quality documents.
  • Support vendor surveillance activities and arrange third-party inspections such as bolting, welding, and nondestructive testing.
  • Develop and implement electronic welding procedures per AWS codes, including writing WPSs, PQRs, and welder certifications.
  • Certify welders according to AWS and CWB codes, maintaining their certifications and developing welder continuity programs.
  • Perform inspections/testing within expertise, including bolt testing of permanently installed bolts.
  • Interface with clients through surveys at project start, during, and at project completion.
  • Document inspections and quality control activities, and write weekly Toolbox Talks.
  • Manage the Non-Conformance Report (NCR) program and lead investigations.
  • Oversee calibration of equipment and perform weekly quality audits.
  • Assist with internal audits and maintain quality manuals, forms, and procedures.
  • Interact regularly with shop floor operations to ensure quality standards are maintained.
  • Travel across North America for meetings, site visits, and client interactions as needed.
  • Exhibit reliable attendance and support project and office obligations.

Management Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise NDE subcontractors and train employees in quality procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field and 3 years of field quality experience, or equivalent.
  • ASNT Level I certification preferred.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector preferred.
  • CWB Certified Welding Inspector/Supervisor preferred.
  • NACE Certified Coating Inspector Level I preferred.
  • USACE certifications preferred.
