Sets up, operates, and maintains computer-controlled machinery to fabricate precision metal, plastic, or composite parts. The role requires interpreting blueprints, selecting proper tooling, adjusting machine feeds and speeds, and inspecting finished components to meet strict quality tolerances.
Core Responsibilities
- Setup and Edit Calibration: Prepare CNC mills, lathes, or routers by loading raw materials, installing proper fixtures, and setting tool offsets.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and analyze technical drawings, CAD models, and G-code or conversational programming instructions.
- Operation and Monitoring: Oversee production runs, listen for irregularities, and adjust machine parameters (feed rates, cutting depths) in real time
- Quality Assurance: Inspect finished workpieces using precision measurement tools like micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine equipment maintenance, clear swarf, replace worn cutting tools, and resolve basic programming or mechanical issues.
- Documentation: Log production data, track non-conforming parts, and communicate shift handovers.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), Machining properties, and mathematics.
- Tool Proficiency: Experience with precision measuring equipment and hand tools.
- Education & Experience: High school diploma or GED; completion of a
trade/vocational school program or a formal apprenticeship is often preferred, alongside 1 to 3+ years of shop floor experience.
- · Safety Compliance: Ability to adhere strictly to shop safety rules, wear proper PPE, and maintain a clean workspace.
