First Shift Journeyman Machinist

Journeyman MachinistJagemann's precision tool room is hiring a Journeyman Machinist to operate advanced machining equipment on critical tooling components. You'll work in a temperature-controlled environment using precision measuring equipment to verify dimensional accuracy while managing machining parameters to maintain surface finish specifications.What You'll DoCore Machining Operations:Set up and operate manual and precision grinding machines to process parts per specificationsPlan work sequences and determine cutting parameters (feeds, speeds, depths)Work to close tolerances using precision measuring instrumentsProgramming & Setup:Write and edit CNC programsCalculate dimensional relationships and input data to machine controllersDevelop custom holding fixtures and soft jaws for non-standard partsTool & Equipment Management:Select appropriate cutting tools and manage tool inventoryPerform routine preventive maintenance on CNC equipmentSharpen non-insert tools as neededMaterial Expertise:Machine hardened steels, carbide, and other specialty materialsAdjust speeds, feeds, and tooling based on material characteristicsTraining & Support:Mentor CNC operators and apprenticesProvide troubleshooting guidance and occasional multi-machine oversightMaintenance & Safety:Keep work areas clean and organizedFollow all EHS procedures and collaborate with vendors on tooling needsWhat We're Looking ForHigh school diploma plus machining or metalworking trainingMazak programming certificationPartial completion of company-specified Machine Tool Operation curriculumCAD/CAM and Solutionware training1–3 years of toolroom and CNC machining experienceProficiency in CNC setup and operationStrong knowledge of material machining characteristicsAttention to detail and ability to hold close tolerancesFamiliarity with Environmental Health & Safety proceduresShifts1st Shift: Monday–Thursday 4×10s or Monday–Friday 5×8s BenefitsMedical, dental, and vision coverage - effective day oneCompany-paid short/long-term disability and basic life insurance401(k) with company contributionsPaid holidays and vacation from date of hirePaid education and career development programsOnsite fitness center for employees and spousesPrescription safety glasses and safety shoe reimbursementFlexible scheduling in a climate-controlled facilityJagemann is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
