Job Responsibilities: Tool & Die Maker:
  • Fabricate dies using complex machinery such as drill presses, manual lathes and grinders
  • Use sketches, blueprints, specifications, and models to plan operations for the fabrication of dies, tools and assemblies, ensuring safety and maximum efficiency
  • Verify dimensions of finished parts to ensure they conform to specifications using dial indicators, gauge blocks, calipers, comparators, and micrometers
  • Utilize hand and machine tools to assemble parts of tools and dies and to repair and modify gauges, jigs and dies
  • Design templates and jigs to be used as work aids for convenient fabrication of products and parts
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems and perform necessary repairs to tooling and dies
  • Set up and operate all department machine tools including mills, lathes, grinders, rotary tables; monitors and adjusts mechanical processes as required.
  • Set pyrometer controls of heat-treating furnaces, and place parts, tools, or assemblies into furnaces to harden.
  • Interface with external and internal customers, handle supplier and customer concerns, and work with team members to solve problems during the production process
  • File and finish workpieces using the appropriate hand tools to ensure products are smooth and that they fit together properly
  • Select the appropriate metals and materials to be used based on properties, ensuring they meet project specifications
  • Study specification plans and blueprints to determine the proper assembly, alignment and calibration of machines
  • Inspect finish dies to ensure proper smoothness, finish and contour free of all defects
  • Adhere stringently to all safety guidelines by keeping work area clean and wearing protective clothing
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T symbols
Preferred Qualifications: Tool & Die Maker:
  • Completion of apprenticeship program or trade school diploma program
  • Two to five years of experience in tool and die making
  • Experience machining carbide
  • Experience working with close tolerances .0005″ or less
Required Skills and Qualifications: Tool & Die Maker:
  • High school diploma required; associate degree in fabrication preferred, with at least 1 year of industry experience
  • Excellent technical skills, with the ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot mechanical problems
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of gages, precision measuring instruments, and all necessary inspection equipment
  • Has working knowledge of advanced shop mathematics, including trigonometry
  • Experience working with a wide range tool steels
  • Must be able to stand for shift durations
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively
  • Excellent visual accuracy
