Summary: The Driver / Maintenance Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the assisted living facility. This dual-role position involves safely transporting residents to appointments, activities, and events while also assisting with general maintenance tasks to maintain a safe and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Driver Duties

  • Safely transport residents to medical appointments, outings, and other scheduled activities.

  • Assist residents in and out of vehicles, ensuring safety and comfort at all times.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-maintained facility vehicle fleet, including regular inspections and scheduling servicing.

  • Follow all traffic laws and facility transportation policies to ensure safety.

  • Communicate with residents and staff regarding transportation schedules and any delays or changes.

  • Keep accurate records of trips, mileage, and vehicle maintenance.

Maintenance Assistant Duties

  • Assist with routine maintenance tasks such as light plumbing, electrical work, painting, and carpentry.

  • Perform regular safety inspections of facility equipment, systems, and communal spaces.

  • Address minor repairs promptly and report major issues to the Facilities Manager.

  • Ensure the grounds are well-maintained, including landscaping, snow removal, and debris clearing as needed.

  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests in a timely manner.

  • Assist with moving furniture, setting up event spaces, and general facility upkeep.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • Experience in maintenance, facilities management, or a similar role is preferred.

  • Prior experience working in an assisted living or healthcare setting is a plus.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent driving skills with knowledge of vehicle safety and maintenance.

  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance practices.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact respectfully with residents, staff, and visitors.

  • Ability to lift, move, and carry heavy objects up to [specific weight].

  • Flexible and adaptable to a dynamic work environment.

Working Conditions

  • Combination of indoor and outdoor work environments.

  • Frequent interaction with residents who may require patience and understanding.
