Job Description

CNC Machining Specialist — Complex Components

About LECO
For more than 90 years, LECO has designed and built world‑class laboratory instruments used across the globe. We’re a family-owned organization in St. Joseph, Michigan, built on shared interests, stability, loyalty, and trust.

A Day on Second Shift
You clock in at 3:15 pm, step into a small‑batch production environment, and take ownership of high‑mix, low‑volume work. You’ll set up and run Horizontal Machining Centers, Turning Centers, and Mill‑Turn machines. Between jobs, you edit G & M code, verify dimensions with precision gauges, and collaborate with teammates to solve problems. You pause downstream processing when a part isn’t right, drive corrective action, and only move product when the fix is verified. You’ll also perform routine maintenance to keep the equipment at peak performance.

What You’ll Do

  • Set up and operate CNC machine tools, including HMCs, turning centers, and mill‑turn platforms
  • Produce intricate parts from diverse materials in a small‑batch setting
  • Initiate and recommend solutions through established channels to resolve issues
  • Identify and document product quality concerns
  • Verify that corrective actions are implemented and effective
  • Stop further processing, delivery, or installation of nonconforming parts until issues are corrected
  • Inspect the parts you manufacture and perform related tasks

What You Bring

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and use precision measuring instruments
  • Ownership mindset: bring your own tools or be willing to acquire the tools of the trade
  • Hands‑on skill setting up and operating CNC machine tools
  • Experience editing CNC programs in G & M code format
  • Comfort with routine machine upkeep and preventative maintenance
  • Detail orientation and strong problem‑solving ability; prior exposure to FANUC or Mitsubishi controls is a plus, especially from aerospace or medical manufacturing

Education / Certifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required. A Journeyman’s Certificate or 8+ years of experience is preferred.

Schedule
Second shift, starting at 3:15 pm (end time varies); Monday–Friday, with overtime scheduled as needed.

Proficiencies

  • CNC tooling
  • Troubleshooting skills
  • CNC programming
  • G‑code
  • CNC machine setup & changeover
