Role Summary

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides advanced vocational nursing care within a state-operated hospital setting serving individuals with intellectual disabilities and complex medical, mental health, and behavioral health needs.

This role is integral to ensuring the safety, dignity, and well-being of patients through high-quality clinical care, medication management, and adherence to regulatory standards. The LVN works collaboratively within a structured healthcare environment while receiving comprehensive training and mentorship to support professional growth and clinical excellence.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients with intellectual disabilities and complex medical, mental health, and behavioral health conditions

  • Administer medications and treatments accurately and safely

  • Provide medication education to patients as appropriate

  • Complete detailed and accurate clinical documentation

  • Perform computer data entry (full system training provided)

  • Follow and comply with all facility Standard Operating Procedures

  • Ensure adherence to applicable regulatory standards and accrediting agency requirements, including ICF-IID regulations and state health services standards

  • Maintain compliance with all policies, procedures, and directives governing patient care

  • Participate in required training and professional development programs

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Valid, active Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license

  • Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience

  • Ability to comply with state immunization requirements

  • Successful completion of required drug screening

  • Successful completion of required fingerprinting and background screening

  • Completion of all required facility and state-mandated training

  • Ability to work within a structured hospital environment serving individuals with complex needs

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in behavioral health, mental health, intellectual disability, or state hospital settings

  • Strong medication administration and documentation skills

  • Experience working within regulated healthcare environments

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Strong communication and critical thinking skills

Schedule & Commitment

  • Full-time position (40 hours per week)

  • Alternating shifts to meet staffing needs

  • Every other weekend off

  • Flexible start date (Monday–Friday start options available)

  • Five (5) days allotted prior to start date to complete pre-employment requirements

  • Minimum of 2–3 weeks of structured on-unit mentorship with a seasoned LVN

  • Six (6) month minimum commitment required

Location & Work Type

On-site hospital setting.

Full-time, shift-based schedule.
