Location: Neptune, NJ 07753
Duration: 24 weeks with possible extension
Schedule: 4×10-hour shifts
Shift: Varied opening/closing shifts, approximately 5:30 AM–5:00 PM

Weekends: Not required
Holidays: Not required

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Radiation Therapist responsible for the safe and effective delivery of prescribed radiation treatments in accordance with Radiation Oncologist treatment plans and simulation instructions.

The ideal candidate will have experience with TrueBeam, linear accelerators, and simulation procedures, along with strong technical skills and a compassionate, patient-focused approach.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely administer and monitor prescribed radiation treatments.
  • Deliver radiotherapy according to Radiation Oncologist prescriptions and treatment plans.
  • Obtain and evaluate portal images and implement corrective measures when necessary.
  • Perform required treatment calculations.
  • Prepare treatment rooms, equipment, and accessories.
  • Explain equipment and procedures to patients and provide appropriate instructions.
  • Verify informed consent before treatment.
  • Safely transfer and position patients for treatment.
  • Perform treatment simulations using conventional and/or CT simulators.
  • Document accurate and detailed treatment setup instructions, including:
    • Setup aids
    • Treatment distance
    • Field size
    • Treatment depth
    • Gantry and collimator angles
  • Evaluate diagnostic studies for appropriate field placement.
  • Prepare and construct immobilization devices when required.
  • Apply treatment marks, tattoos, and anatomical landmarks for setup purposes.
  • Perform single-direct, parallel-opposed, multi-field, isocentric, and extended-distance setups.
  • Contour patients in appropriate planes as required.
  • Calculate monitor units according to procedures established by the Medical Physicist.
  • Construct and mount individualized shielding blocks and lead cut-outs as required.
  • Prepare and apply individualized bolus when necessary.
Quality Assurance & Equipment
  • Perform and document quality assurance procedures according to departmental policies for:
    • Treatment units
    • Manual simulator
    • CT simulator
    • Film processor
    • Treatment accessories
  • Observe equipment for proper operation and report malfunctions to appropriate technical, physics, or radiation safety personnel.
  • Maintain treatment and simulation rooms in a clean, organized, and functional condition.
  • Stock and maintain necessary supplies and linens.
Patient Care & Communication
  • Assess and respond appropriately to patients' physical conditions and special needs.
  • Answer patient and family questions within the scope of professional practice.
  • Provide patients with appropriate educational materials at the beginning of treatment.
  • Maintain patient dignity, safety, and comfort throughout treatment.
  • Adapt care and communication to the patient's age, culture, language, developmental needs, literacy level, and hearing or visual limitations.
  • Maintain timely daily treatment schedules in coordination with patient transportation and inpatient care areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order throughout the Radiation Oncology Department, particularly patient-care areas.
  • Assist with teaching Radiation Therapy students during clinical rotations.
  • Adhere to organizational competency and professional practice standards.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
  • Ability to push and pull a minimum of 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for a minimum of 4 hours per day.
Required Qualifications
  • 1–2 years of Radiation Therapy experience preferred/required.
  • Graduate of an approved Radiation Therapy Program.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current ARRT registration in Radiation Therapy.
  • Current New Jersey Radiation Therapy license as required by the state.
  • Experience with:
    • TrueBeam
    • Linear accelerators
    • Simulation (SIMS)
Required Certifications & Licensure
  • ARRT Registration – Radiation Therapy
  • New Jersey Radiation Therapy License
