Job Description
Marine Structural Fabrication Fitter
At HTI, your day starts by opening digital blueprints and translating them into precisely fit steel structures that power major maritime manufacturing projects. You’ll move from layout to fit-up, guiding parts into perfect alignment and locking them in place with clean tack welds, all while partnering closely with expert welders and other skilled trades.
A day in the role- Lay out, fit, align, and assemble structural steel components from engineering drawings and specifications.
- Read and interpret digital blueprints, fabrication drawings, and work instructions to identify parts and sequences.
- Use electronic drawing systems to confirm part numbers and verify correct materials.
- Measure and mark using tape measures, layout tools, and precision instruments to achieve exact tolerances.
- Perform hands-on fitting work: grinding, drilling, reaming, countersinking, deburring, and straightening.
- Tack weld (SMAW/stick) components into place prior to final weld-out.
- Confirm alignment, dimensions, and tolerances; rework when needed to meet quality standards.
- Conduct in-process quality checks against engineering requirements.
- Operate fabrication equipment safely while following HTI’s safety and quality procedures.
- Collaborate with welders and other trades to complete large structural assemblies.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1–3 years of structural fitting experience (shipyard, marine, heavy fabrication, or industrial manufacturing preferred).
- Proficiency reading fabrication blueprints and navigating digital drawing systems.
- Solid understanding of structural layout, fit-up, and dimensional tolerances.
- Comfort with construction math and precision measuring tools.
- Experience performing stick (SMAW) tack welding.
- Hands-on skill with grinders, drills, and layout tools.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and commitment to safe work in a fast-paced environment.
- Background in shipyard, vessel construction, or marine fabrication strongly preferred.
