Job Description

Job Description

Build a career that moves the maritime industry forward. At Everett Ship Repair in Everett, WA, we repair, maintain, and convert commercial vessels—from workboats to passenger ships—while continuously elevating our methods. Founded in 2019 and positioned alongside the U.S. Navy, we’re expanding our capacity and our reputation with a crew of industry veterans and skilled tradespeople who value precision, learning, and pride in craftsmanship.

Imagine this

You step aboard a vessel slated for sea trials. The task: confirm main engine to gearbox alignment, verify shaft runout, and finalize a foundation you fabricated earlier in the week from aluminum, laid out to blueprint, and secured with MIG and stick welds. You’ll test fit a custom-machined component, validate tolerances with micrometers and dial indicators, and sign off knowing the installation meets owner and regulatory standards. That’s the variety and impact you can expect here.

Impact you will make
  • Install and precisely align propulsion equipment: main engines, gear boxes, pumps, shafts, jet drives, propellers, rudders, and Z-drive systems.
  • Form, fit, and fabricate structural machinery foundations in steel and aluminum per blueprints; perform layout, MIG/arc welding, and tacking.
  • Lock down alignments during sea trials.
  • Lay out, cut, form, machine, and stage parts for final assembly.
  • Operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drills; utilize calipers, torque wrenches, micrometers, and dial indicators to confirm tolerances.
  • Work fluently in metric and imperial systems; convert between SAE/metric and fractions/decimals.
  • Use metalworking equipment: shear, brake, roll, press, and band saw.
  • Cut and heat with oxygen–propane torches and plasma cutters.
  • Keep the jobsite orderly and safe; follow all safety policies and regulations.
  • Collaborate closely or work independently, communicating clearly in writing and speech.
  • Provide occasional relief for Inside Machinists: build custom components; support small/large assemblies; machine steel, alloys, and ship assemblies to blueprint specs on conventional machines.
  • Model safe shipyard practices and strong housekeeping; actively uphold the NBB safety culture.
  • Mentor others, foster cooperation with crew and supervision, and adapt to evolving priorities.
  • Contribute wherever needed in our fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years as a Machinery Assembler or Journeyman Machinist.
  • High school diploma/GED or vocational education.
  • Familiarity with shipyard safety practices and vessel terminology.
  • Able to read drawings/blueprints and interpret specifications.
  • Strong basic math and conversion skills (SAE↔metric, fractions↔decimals).
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic hand and power tools; lathe and milling machine experience.
  • Experience around heavy machinery; willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Lift/carry up to 50 lbs; comfortable working at heights up to 60 ft.
  • Enter confined spaces with a respirator; work in tight spaces at awkward angles.
What sets you apart
  • Experience in shipyards (repair or new build) or marine construction.
  • Laser alignment expertise (Rotoline, Pinpoint).
  • Shipyard Competent Person certification.
  • Ability to work with multiple materials (steel and aluminum).
