CNC Mill Machinist – Champaign, IL

  • Full-time, 1st shift (6 am to 4:30 pm M-Th) or 2nd shift (4 pm to 2:30 am M-Th)
  • Salary: $27-30/hour, plus 10% shift differential for 2nd shift

Key Responsibilities:

Our CNC Operators are responsible for independently operating CNC machines and performing routine setups to produce precision components that meet customer specifications. This position requires 1 to 5 years of previous CNC manufacturing experience, strong attention to quality, and the ability to troubleshoot routine machining issues while maintaining productivity and safety standards.

  • Independently operate one or more CNC mills, lathes, or other CNC equipment.
  • Perform routine machine setups, including loading programs, changing tooling, setting offsets, and verifying first-piece quality.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, engineering drawings, and process documentation.
  • Inspect parts using precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, and gauges.
  • Monitor machine performance and identify opportunities to improve cycle time, quality, and efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot routine machining and quality issues and escalate complex problems as needed.
  • Complete production documentation accurately.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance and maintain clean, organized workstations using 5S principles.
  • Follow all safety, quality, and company policies.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2–5 years of CNC machining or CNC operator experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience performing machine setups and tool changes.
  • Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Proficient in using precision measuring equipment.
  • Strong understanding of machining tolerances and quality standards.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Reliable attendance and strong teamwork skills.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with CNC machining and operation (preferably with precision, complex, tight-tolerance components).
  • Experience with Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, Okuma, Siemens, or similar CNC controls.
  • Forklift and overhead crane experience.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma exposure.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for the duration of a 10-hour shift.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently bend, twist, reach, stoop, and grasp.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate machinery and measuring equipment.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving machinery, noise, and varying temperatures.
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Working Conditions

  • Manufacturing production environment.
  • Regular exposure to machinery, metal materials, and industrial noise.
  • Overtime and occasional weekend work may be required to meet production demands.
