Transport Driver / Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Position Summary

The Transport Driver/CNA is responsible for safely transporting residents to and from medical appointments, hospital visits, therapy sessions, community outings, and other approved destinations while providing direct resident care and assistance as a Certified Nursing Assistant. This position ensures resident safety, comfort, dignity, and compliance with all facility, state, and federal regulations. The employee must maintain a valid Florida driver's license and active Florida CNA certification.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesTransportation Duties
  • Safely transport residents to and from scheduled appointments and activities.

  • Assist residents entering and exiting vehicles, including wheelchair and stretcher transports when applicable.

  • Secure wheelchairs, mobility devices, and residents according to safety regulations.

  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance concerns promptly.

  • Maintain transportation logs, mileage records, and resident trip documentation.

  • Coordinate transportation schedules with nursing staff, residents, families, and healthcare providers.

  • Ensure vehicles are clean, fueled, and properly maintained.

  • Comply with all Florida traffic laws and facility transportation policies.

CNA Duties
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transferring, and ambulation.

  • Monitor and report changes in residents' physical, emotional, or mental condition to licensed nursing staff.

  • Obtain and document vital signs as assigned.

  • Assist with feeding and hydration needs.

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for residents.

  • Respond promptly to resident requests and call lights.

  • Assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed.

  • Provide compassionate, resident-centered care while preserving resident dignity and privacy.

  • Follow infection control, safety, and emergency procedures.

Compliance and Documentation
  • Complete required documentation accurately and timely.

  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

  • Adhere to all federal, state, local, and facility policies and procedures.

  • Participate in mandatory in-service training and continuing education programs.

QualificationsRequired
  • Current, active Florida Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in good standing.

  • Valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Current CPR certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe).

  • Ability to safely operate facility vehicles, including wheelchair-accessible vans.

  • Ability to lift, transfer, push, and pull residents and equipment in accordance with facility policy.

Preferred
  • Previous experience in a skilled nursing facility, rehabilitation center, assisted living facility, or healthcare setting.

  • Experience transporting elderly or medically fragile individuals.

  • Knowledge of resident rights and long-term care regulations.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and more with assistance.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, push, and pull for extended periods.

  • Ability to assist residents with transfers and mobility needs.

  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, physicians, and staff.

  • Ability to remain calm and professional in emergency situations.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Knowledge of safe resident handling techniques.

  • Exposure to healthcare-related environments and potential infectious diseases.

  • May require weekend, holiday, and on-call availability based on facility needs.

License/Certification Requirements
  • Florida CNA Certification (Required)

  • Florida Driver's License (Required)

  • CPR Certification (Required or obtainable upon hire)
