About the Role

As a Star Swiss sliding headstock machinist, you’ll transform prints into flawless parts. Your day starts at a clean, well-organized cell where you review job travelers and blueprints, verify tooling, and dial in your setup. You’ll run Star Swiss CNC lathes to deliver repeatable, tight-tolerance components for demanding applications.

Day in the Life
  • Set up and operate Star Swiss CNC lathes (sliding headstock) to manufacture precision parts.
  • Interpret engineering blueprints, GD&T, and job travelers to plan operations and verify requirements.
  • Use precision metrology tools—calipers, micrometers, indicators, and gauges—to validate every step.
  • Perform in-process and final inspections to confirm spec compliance and process capability.
  • Maintain ultra-tight tolerances; apply offsets and adjustments to keep quality locked in.
  • Proactively identify and communicate machining or quality issues before they impact throughput.
  • Follow safety procedures and help sustain a safety-first culture.
  • Keep a clean, organized, efficient work area using 5S principles.
  • Collaborate closely with quality, engineering, and production teams to solve problems and improve outcomes.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Exceptional blueprint reading skills (required), including GD&T.
  • Hands-on mastery with measuring equipment: calipers, micrometers, indicators, and gauges.
  • Uncompromising attention to detail and a quality-first mindset.
  • Track record of producing consistent, defect-free parts.
  • Previous Swiss lathe experience preferred.
  • Comfort in precision machining environments with tight tolerances.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand for extended durations.
  • Lift 35–50 lbs as needed.
  • Bend, reach, stoop, and crouch throughout the shift.
  • Visual acuity for close-tolerance inspection and blueprint reading.
  • Work safely in a manufacturing setting with noise, coolants, and moving machinery.
