Heavy Industrial Maintenance Technician (42/hr)
Job Description
This role is responsible for safely troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining production equipment and facility systems in a heavy industrial environment. The maintenance technician ensures reliable operation of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and conveyor systems by performing scheduled and emergency repairs, inspections, and improvements.
Responsibilities- Follow all company safety policies and procedures at all times.
- Adhere to job-specific work instructions related to assigned tasks and equipment.
- Receive, interpret, and execute instructions, work orders, and blueprints for scheduled and emergency repairs, installations, and inspections.
- Perform troubleshooting and repair on production machinery and facility equipment.
- Operate production machinery as needed to test functionality and verify repairs.
- Test and inspect equipment for defects and malfunctions, including misalignment, wear, failure, insufficient lubrication, and opportunities for improvement.
- Perform mechanical maintenance on equipment, including disassembly, repair, and reassembly of components.
- Conduct conveyor maintenance and troubleshooting, including belt-driven conveyor systems.
- Install, replace, and maintain rollers, belts, and motors on conveyor systems.
- Install and replace flange bearings and taper locks on pipeline and mechanical systems.
- Perform electrical troubleshooting on equipment, including motors, overhead cranes, heavy equipment, hydraulics, and conveyor systems.
- Diagnose issues on 60HP–100HP motors and related heavy industrial machinery.
- Carry out welding tasks as required for maintenance and repair of equipment and structural components.
- Inspect lubrication systems and ensure equipment is properly lubricated to prevent wear and failure.
- Support both scheduled preventive maintenance and unscheduled corrective maintenance activities.
- Document maintenance work performed and communicate equipment status to appropriate personnel.
- Collaborate with other technicians and operations staff to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
- Hands-on experience as a maintenance technician or maintenance mechanic in a heavy industrial environment.
- Strong mechanical maintenance skills, including repair and troubleshooting of production machinery and facility equipment.
- Experience with hydraulics, including troubleshooting and repair of hydraulic systems.
- Proficiency in conveyor maintenance and troubleshooting, particularly belt-driven conveyor systems.
- Ability to install and replace rollers, belts, and motors on conveyors.
- Experience installing and replacing flange bearings and taper locks on mechanical and pipeline systems.
- Electrical troubleshooting skills with industrial equipment, including motors, overhead cranes, heavy equipment, hydraulics, and conveyor systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair 60HP–100HP motors in an industrial setting.
- Welding experience for maintenance repair, including working with flanges, bearings, and structural components.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, instructions, and blueprints for repair, installation, and inspection tasks.
- Strong focus on safety and adherence to company safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to test and inspect equipment for defects, misalignment, wear, failure, and insufficient lubrication.
- Experience working as a multicraft technician with both electrical and mechanical responsibilities.
- Ability to work in roles that may involve approximately 30% electrical and 70% mechanical tasks.
- Experience with 480V electrical troubleshooting and 110V AC systems that interface with PLC systems.
- Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting and diagnosing issues in automated systems.
- Experience troubleshooting systems such as overhead cranes, heavy equipment, hydraulics, and conveyor systems.
- Comfort working in a hot, heavy industrial environment with demanding physical conditions.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and extended shifts as required by the schedule.

Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a hot, heavy industrial environment that is typically more than 10 degrees warmer than the outside temperature. Work involves exposure to large production machinery, heavy equipment, overhead cranes, hydraulics, and conveyor systems. The position follows structured rotating schedules. Melt Maintenance operates on a 5–2–2–5 rotation: Week 1 consists of five days on and two days off on days; Week 2 consists of two days on and five days off on days; Week 3 consists of five days on and two days off on nights; Week 4 consists of two days on and five days off on nights. Finishing Operations and Maintenance follow a five-week rotation: Week 1 is Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–3 p.m.; Week 2 is Monday–Friday, 3 p.m.–11 p.m.; Week 3 is Thursday–Sunday, 7 a.m.–7 p.m.; Weeks 4 and 5 are Thursday–Friday, 11 p.m.–7 a.m., Saturday–Sunday, 7 p.m.–7 a.m., and Monday–Wednesday, 11 p.m.–7 a.m. Night and weekend work may include shift premiums, reflecting the demanding nature of the schedule and environment. The setting is industrial and physically intensive, requiring comfort with heat, noise, and working around large, moving equipment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Gallatin, TN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $33.23 - $42.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
