Assembly Mechanic
Job Description
The Assembly Mechanic installs manufactured kits and components on new heavy equipment while following detailed instructions and technical documentation. This role involves mechanical assembly, torqueing fasteners and hydraulic connections to specification, and working with a variety of hand, power, and air tools. The Assembly Mechanic contributes to a clean, organized, and efficient work area and collaborates with team members to complete projects safely and on time.
Responsibilities- Install manufactured kits and components onto new heavy equipment according to specifications.
- Follow detailed written and verbal work instructions to complete assemblies accurately and efficiently.
- Torque bolts, hydraulic hoses, and fittings to manufacturer specifications using appropriate torque tools.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and air tools safely and efficiently during assembly and installation tasks.
- Read and interpret diagrams, schematics, prints, installation procedures, and equipment documentation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including designated department workspaces.
- Work independently or as part of a team to complete assigned projects and meet production schedules.
- Perform work in tight or confined areas, under equipment, and on ladders or platforms as required.
- Work on multiple plans and processes to build parts and kits on heavy equipment.
- Assist with basic mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic tasks related to equipment assembly and repair.
- At least 1 year of experience in mechanical assembly, equipment repair, automotive, diesel, or a similar field.
- Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions accurately.
- Ability to read and interpret prints, diagrams, and schematics.
- Comfortable using hand tools, air tools, power tools, and measuring tools.
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems, including moving parts and assemblies.
- Basic understanding of electrical systems, wiring, and related components.
- Basic understanding of hydraulic systems, including hoses, fittings, and connections.
- Ability to use torque tools to tighten bolts, hoses, and fittings to specification.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and handle physically demanding tasks.
- Ability to work in physically demanding positions, including tight spaces, under equipment, and on ladders or platforms.
- Experience with truck equipment, diesel equipment, or automotive repair.
- Experience with mechanical assembly in a manufacturing or plant environment.
- Familiarity with manual and power-driven tools used in mechanical and electrical assembly.
- Experience working with hydraulic systems, hoses, and fittings on heavy equipment.
- Experience reading and working from multiple plans and processes to build assemblies and kits.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic issues during assembly.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to following specifications and safety procedures.

Work EnvironmentThe position is based in a clean and organized plant environment with designated areas for each department, supporting efficient workflow and safety. You will work around heavy equipment and specialized machinery using hand, power, air, and measuring tools on a daily basis. The role involves physical activity, including lifting up to 50 lbs, working in tight or confined spaces, under equipment, and on ladders or platforms. The organized layout and departmental structure help maintain a professional, well-structured work setting focused on quality and productivity.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Trussville, AL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $29.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
