Job Title: Manual lathe & mill operator

The Machinist assists with the fabrication, repair, maintenance, and modification of plant equipment using mills, lathes, grinders, and a variety of shop tools and machinery. This role fabricates parts from blueprints in a timely and accurate manner, selects and uses appropriate tools and materials for each job, and supports the shop team by performing additional tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate parts as needed by interpreting and working from blueprints with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Assist with the fabrication, repair, maintenance, and alteration of plant equipment using mills, lathes, grinders, and other shop machinery.
  • Set up and operate manual mills, lathes, and related machine tools to produce parts to specified tolerances.
  • Utilize proper tools, equipment, and materials for each job to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality work.
  • Troubleshoot machining and equipment issues to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Perform machining operations on CNC and manual equipment as required by the job.
  • Support general machine operating tasks in the fabrication shop, including preparation, setup, and cleanup of work areas.
  • Follow instructions and complete additional duties as assigned by the shop lead or fabrication shop leadership.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and adhere to all safety procedures in the shop environment.
  • Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to ensure parts and equipment meet operational requirements.
  • Hands-on experience operating mills and lathes in a fabrication or machine shop environment.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints to fabricate parts accurately.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting machining and equipment issues.
  • Experience with manual machine operating, including setup and operation of mills and lathes.
  • Familiarity with CNC machining processes and equipment.
  • Ability to select and use appropriate tools, equipment, and materials for each machining job.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet quality and dimensional specifications.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and perform duties as assigned in a shop setting.
  • Experience using drill press, arm drill, and hand drill in a shop environment.
  • Comfort working with a variety of shop tools and machinery, including grinders and other fabrication equipment.
  • Experience with an engineering or construction shop setting is beneficial.
Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Arvin, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.30 - $24.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
