Job Description

The Maintenance Mechanic provides both emergency and scheduled repairs on production and packaging equipment in a large manufacturing environment. This role sets up machinery for scheduled production runs, performs mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs, and ensures equipment operates safely and efficiently. The Maintenance Mechanic reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders, completes required documentation for all maintenance activities, and consistently follows OSHA safety and health rules.

Responsibilities

  • Perform emergency and unscheduled repairs on production equipment during active production to minimize downtime.
  • Carry out scheduled maintenance services and repairs on production equipment and machines in accordance with preventive maintenance plans.
  • Prepare, set up, and adjust machinery for scheduled production runs to ensure optimal performance.
  • Use sound mechanical skills to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems on packaging and production equipment.
  • Diagnose issues with production and packaging systems using appropriate tools, techniques, and technical documentation.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, technical diagrams, and work orders to determine required maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Document all tasks performed on work orders, preventive maintenance forms, work logs, and other required records accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on production machinery to reduce the likelihood of equipment failures and extend equipment life.
  • Support continuous operation by responding promptly to equipment issues anywhere in the facility.
  • Follow OSHA safety and health rules and adhere to all facility safety policies and procedures while performing maintenance work.
  • Collaborate with production staff to coordinate maintenance activities around production schedules.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure tools and equipment are properly stored after use.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience working with food, beverage, or other comparable packaging and production equipment and machines.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience as a maintenance mechanic, maintenance technician, production mechanic, packaging mechanic, auto mechanic, diesel mechanic, aircraft mechanic, or in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical systems on production and packaging equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs on industrial machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, technical documentation, and work orders to perform maintenance and repairs.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance on production equipment to maintain reliability and performance.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to comply with OSHA safety and health rules and follow established safety procedures.
  • Capability to work second shift (2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.) or third shift (10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.), including weekends.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical school training in mechanics, industrial maintenance, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Welding experience is strongly preferred and will be used in equipment repair and fabrication tasks.
  • PLC experience is a plus and beneficial for troubleshooting automated equipment.
  • Experience repairing production equipment in a food or beverage manufacturing environment is highly valued.
  • Experience in preventative maintenance programs and documentation is advantageous.
  • Comfort working with packaging equipment and high-volume production machinery.
  • Ability to work overtime when needed to support production demands.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of BALTIMORE, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
