Job Description
The Transporter Operator moves containers from the conveyor belt, loads and unloads them onto carts, and transports them to designated areas within a large manufacturing facility. This is a manual, highly repetitive role that supports production operations and requires consistent attention to safety, quality, and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Move containers from conveyor belts and load and unload them onto carts for transfer to other areas of the facility.
- Transport materials safely and efficiently between buildings, production lines, and departments within a large plant.
- Perform manual, repetitive tasks throughout the shift while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Support production, assembly, machine operation, and general labor activities as needed on the production line.
- Follow established procedures, work instructions, and safety guidelines at all times.
- Use basic computer systems to perform job-related tasks, such as tracking materials or following digital work instructions.
- Communicate clearly with team members and other departments to coordinate material movement and resolve issues.
- Identify and report problems or irregularities in material flow, equipment, or processes, using analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Apply basic arithmetic and reading skills to verify quantities, labels, and documentation.
- Collaborate effectively with individuals and teams to help meet and exceed production and quality expectations.
- Properly and regularly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses and steel-toed shoes, for extended periods.
- Repeatedly lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds over shifts of up to 12 hours.
- Frequently stoop, twist, reach overhead, sit, stand, and use hands and fingers to perform job functions.
- Adhere to clean room protocols, including wearing required garments and following contamination control procedures.
- Support and maintain a highly organized, clean, and safe work area in line with 5S and continuous improvement practices.
Essential Skills
- 1–3+ years of manufacturing experience in production, assembly, machine operation, warehouse, or similar environments.
- Computer literacy sufficient to use basic systems and follow digital work instructions.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with individuals and teams.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills to identify issues and contribute to process improvements.
- Basic arithmetic ability to handle counts, measurements, and simple calculations.
- Solid reading and writing skills to understand procedures and complete documentation.
- Ability to work well with others to ensure the team meets and exceeds performance expectations.
- Ability to properly and regularly use required PPE, including safety glasses and steel-toed shoes, for up to 12 hours.
- Physical ability to repeatedly lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds over extended shifts.
- Physical ability to stoop, twist, reach overhead, sit, stand, and use hands and fingers throughout the workday.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience in a high-volume production line or general labor role in manufacturing.
- Comfort working in a structured, process-driven environment with established standards and procedures.
- Ability to adapt to different tasks within production, assembly, and material handling as operational needs change.
- Willingness to work any of the three available shifts: 1st (6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.), 2nd (2:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m.), or 3rd (10:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m.).
This is a Contract position based out of Lansing, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
