JOB SUMMARY: Southern Vitreoretinal Associates (SVA) Valdosta, Georgia Location is seeking an experienced and compassionate Medical Receptionist to join our Front Office team. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, eager and quick to learn team member, with a strong ability to adapt to new tools, concepts, and environments. Under the direction of the Front Office Manager, this role serves as the first point of contact for patients entering the clinic, providing a warm, professional welcome and supporting all aspects of the patient check-in/check-out process. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment and possess effective communication, organizational, and multitasking skills. Required to work in Tifton clinic every Monday and one Thursday of each month. (may occasionally need to travel to other offices if an emergency occurs in our Tallahassee, FL or Albany, GA locations)

The Medical Receptionist plays a key role in supporting patient care by ensuring accurate intake of patient information, scheduling and confirming appointments, verifying insurance, collecting payments, assisting with referrals, and maintaining smooth day-to-day front desk operations. This is an in-office position with no remote work available.

  • Greet and check in patients in a friendly and professional manner, ensuring accurate collection and verification of personal, insurance, and referral information.
  • Schedule, confirm, reschedule, and cancel appointments as needed, maintaining awareness of provider availability and clinic workflows.
  • Collect copays, coinsurances, balances, and any other financial obligations at the time of service.
  • Assist patients with completing necessary forms and ensure all paperwork is accurately documented and scanned into the EMR/EHR system.
  • Assist in managing patient flow in the waiting area, alerting clinical staff of patient arrivals and delays.
  • Intake and process referrals, including reviewing documentation and initiating appointment scheduling.
  • Respond to patient concerns or questions with compassion, clarity, and professionalism, escalating issues when necessary.
  • Assist with administrative functions such as insurance verification, records requests, appointment reminders, and coordination with referring offices.
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to support seamless patient care and effective communication.
  • Monitor front desk operations and communicate schedule changes or provider updates as needed.
  • Maintain a neat, organized, and HIPAA-compliant front desk area.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in adapting to evolving office needs, including assisting at satellite clinics when necessary.
  • Required to work in Tifton clinic every Monday and one Thursday of each month.


EXPECTATIONS:

  • Maintain professionalism in demeanor, appearance, punctuality, and interactions with patients and staff.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient and appointment information.
  • Must be able to travel to satellite locations as needed.
  • Adhere to clinic protocols and demonstrate an understanding of front desk workflows and procedures.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience in a medical front office or clinical receptionist role preferred.
  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Attention to detail and high standards for accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Patient-focused, compassionate, and service-oriented demeanor.
  • Proficiency with general office equipment and software.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
