Hoover Intergenerational Care is looking for qualified, energetic Program Director. This person will be a great team-builder, successful in day-to-day operations and have an acumen for implementing approved ECE curriculum to children ages 2 to 5 years old. Applicants must be friendly, able to provide exceptional customer service to parents as well as have a great love for children! Duties: Program Director responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Develop and implement policies and objectives of the program in cooperation with Board advisory committee.
  • Report to the Board of Directors on a-monthly-basis.
  • Maintain a healthy and safe atmosphere for children.
  • Prepare and maintain a budget, which includes personnel “identification” and training, equipment, supplies.
  • Oversee state and federal grant submissions and compliance.
  • Develop and execute an on-going program of activities which “recruit families/children” contributes to the care, growth and development of the children at the center and of each child as an individual.
  • Select and orient personnel to work at the center and hire necessary replacements when vacancies occur.
  • Provide or make available in-service training for staff members.
  • Direct and guide personnel as to teaching abilities and individual working habits. (Regularly scheduled monthly conferences are recommended.)
  • Make written evaluations of staff members once a year and discuss individually with each employee.
  • Work with parents and children to develop effective relationships. Maintain knowledge of first aid.
  • Supervise general condition and upkeep of the building and grounds. Maintain a system of records (in accordance with the State child day center licensing procedures) for financial and statistical purposes. Evaluate facilities, resources, teaching and support personnel, and make recommendations or decisions about promotions, salaries, and dismissals.
  • “Work with the community of senior age adults, college and high schools to establish a relationship, which will aid in the successful implementation of goals and objectives as a Intergeneration Center for the center.”
  • Work with parents, including:
    • Recruit families/parents/children to enroll in the center
    • Interviewing each parent who enrolls a child in the center.
    • Being available for telephone or personal parent conferences when necessary.
    • Planning and attending parent meetings.
    • Working with teachers to devise a progress report on each child to be given to the parents four times a year.
    • Editing and distributing a monthly newsletter of activities at the center to parents, community partners and administration.

The Program Director will also:

  • Work with dietary staff on menus and maintain standards of food service in accordance with the health department.
  • Attend seminars and/or conferences in-order-to keep up to date on developments in the child development field and to aid in in-service training.
  • Serve as a mentor and model to the staff on professional conduct, including confidentiality, best practice, and quality service to children and families.

Minimum Requirements: Must hold a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Educational Leadership, have a Child Development Associate (CDA) certification, CPR and first aid certifications. Proven experience working as a Program Director as well as sound knowledge of local, state, and federal childcare legislation. Two years of experience supervising staff. Four years of experience working with children. Strong leadership and conflict resolution skills are a must! Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Effective communication skills. Detail-oriented.

Preferred Requirements: Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Educational Leadership. Business management experience. Our Program Director will run all aspects of the organization. Besides being organized, s/he needs to keep up with federal and state daycare laws and requirements. First aid: Program Director must have a good knowledge of child safety requirements and be up-to-date on first aid protocol.

Other requirements: Must be an excellent communicator, being able to confidently take prospective parents on a tour, write newsletters and run staff meetings. Good crisis management: must have strong crisis management abilities, being able to remain cool and composed in a crisis. Classroom experience: Program Director is responsible for teaching staff, they need to know how to handle a group of children, understand childhood development and have the know-how to establish classroom structure.

Competitive salary: $82,000 - $88,000/year
