Job Description
Shipping and Receiving Clerk Chicago, Temp-to-hire position
Our client, a leading provider of electroless nickel plating solutions with over 120 years of industry experience is seeking an experienced Metal Finishing Plater. The Shipping and Receiving Clerk is a critical operations role responsible for managing the incoming and outgoing flow of customer-owned metals and finished plated products. Operating within our ISO 9001 / AS9100D system, this position ensures 100% material traceability, accurate physical counts, flawless documentation, and protective packaging to safeguard delicate finishes like silver, copper, and electroless nickel.
Key Responsibilities
ISO-Compliant Receiving & Inventory Intake
- Inspect & Verify: Unload incoming freight and meticulously match physical parts against customer Purchase Orders (POs) and packing slips.
- Lot Traceability: Scale materials, verify part numbers, and issue unique job traveler tags to maintain perfect traceability before releasing items to the production floor.
- Non-Conformance (NCR) Isolation: Immediately identify incoming discrepancies (e.g., miscounts, prior rust, transit damage, or missing paperwork). Apply QMS "HOLD" tags and log non-conformances to pause job routing.
- System Logging: Accurately enter raw material data, weights, and counts into our database/ERP system.
- Industrial Parts Preservation: Safely pack finished rack or barrel-plated parts using specified protective dividers, paper interleaving, and cushioning to avoid scratching or tarnishing soft metals (such as silver or copper).
- Aerospace & Military Documentation: Prepare precise shipping paperwork, including Packing Slips, Bills of Lading (BOL), and strictly verify that necessary Certificates of Conformance (CoC) or thickness reports are attached.
- Dispatch Logistics: Generate shipping labels and coordinate daily pickups with freight carriers, LTL trucks, and parcel couriers (UPS/FedEx).
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 2+ years of industrial shipping/receiving experience. Experience in an ISO 9001 or AS9100 manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
- Quality Literacy: Familiarity with the concepts of lot segregation, document control, and material trace protocols.
- Technical Skills: Basic computer competency for database entries, printing labels, and processing logistics transactions.
- Physical Ability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, industrial warehouse setting. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs regularly and stand/walk for the duration of the shift.
