Location: Albany, NY / Hybrid
Schedule: 37.5 hours/week
Contract: 1 year
Travel: Weekly or bi-weekly travel to New York City required; company-paid travel
This is a W2 position only. You must be either a US citizen or legally able to work in the US for the duration of the contract.
Pay Rate: $58-65/hr depending on experience

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Network & Voice Engineer to support enterprise network and voice infrastructure for a large statewide organization. This is a hands-on technical role in the physical location responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, Internet connectivity, and voice services.

The ideal candidate will have expert-level knowledge of Cisco networking, Cisco Meraki, and core network services including DNS and DHCP, along with strong experience supporting enterprise network environments.

This position is primarily technical and does not include direct people-management responsibilities. The Senior Network & Voice Engineer will work closely with IT Operations and Service Desk teams and will provide technical guidance and escalation support when complex infrastructure issues arise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, document, and maintain enterprise LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, Internet, and voice services.

  • Provide advanced technical support for Cisco and Cisco Meraki network environments.

  • Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure and voice systems.

  • Support core network services including DNS, DHCP, and related network services.

  • Work closely with the Service Desk to troubleshoot and resolve escalated network, connectivity, and voice issues.

  • Provide technical guidance and training to IT support staff on network and voice-related support activities.

  • Coordinate network services with server administrators and cloud-based infrastructure teams.

  • Monitor network performance, investigate outages, and respond to infrastructure incidents.

  • Participate in scheduled and off-hours support for outages and critical infrastructure issues.

  • Follow established IT change-management procedures and document network changes through the organization's CMDB.

  • Create and maintain accurate network diagrams, documentation, configurations, and technical procedures.

  • Manage relationships with network and voice technology vendors and oversee support and maintenance contracts.

  • Ensure hardware and software support agreements remain current.

  • Participate in the design and deployment of network infrastructure for new construction, office expansions, and organizational growth.

  • Travel to organizational locations throughout New York State to perform hands-on work with network and voice infrastructure.

  • Travel to New York City approximately weekly or bi-weekly is required. All approved business travel expenses will be paid by the company.

  • Receive and respond to infrastructure-related incidents and service requests through established support channels.

  • Escalate significant outages or infrastructure issues to appropriate IT leadership.

  • Perform other duties supporting the goals of the IT Operations team.

Required Qualifications
  • Expert-level experience with Cisco networking products and technologies.

  • Expert-level experience with Cisco Meraki and cloud-managed network environments.

  • Expert-level knowledge of DNS and DHCP and their implementation within enterprise network environments.

  • Strong experience designing, implementing, troubleshooting, and maintaining enterprise LAN/WAN environments.

  • Experience with SD-WAN, Internet connectivity, and enterprise network architecture.

  • Experience with Cisco Catalyst IOS and related Cisco networking technologies.

  • Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable: Silver Peak/Aruba/HPE, Cisco Meraki, Extreme Networks, or similar enterprise networking platforms.

  • Strong understanding of network architecture, routing, switching, and network services.

  • Experience supporting enterprise voice/VoIP infrastructure.

  • Experience troubleshooting complex network and infrastructure issues.

  • Experience with CMDB and IT change-management processes.

  • Experience managing technology vendors and support relationships.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple technical issues, and exercise sound judgment during outages and high-priority incidents.

  • Strong communication, documentation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with Service Desk personnel, IT Operations, vendors, and other technical teams.

  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout New York State, including weekly or bi-weekly day trips to New York City from the Albany area.

  • Ability to perform hands-on physical work involving network and voice infrastructure.

Education

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline; or

  • Associate degree in a STEM-related field combined with 1–2 years of relevant experience.

Equivalent combinations of education, certifications, and substantial relevant enterprise networking experience may be considered.

Important Travel Requirement

This is an Albany-area position with required travel to New York City approximately once per week or every other week. Travel will generally be completed as a same-day trip. All approved business travel expenses, including transportation and other applicable travel costs, will be paid by the company.
