Position Summary
The Preventive Maintenance (PM) Technician is responsible for executing preventive and predictive maintenance activities providing to maximize equipment reliability, minimize unplanned downtime, and support safe, efficient manufacturing operations. This position serves as the site subject matter expert for maintenance planning, asset reliability, and maintenance program effectiveness.
The PM Technician works closely with Production, Technical Services, engineering D&A, quality, and facilities teams to ensure all preventive maintenance activities are completed in accordance with schedules, regulatory requirements, and equipment manufacturer recommendations. This position focuses on proactive maintenance strategies rather than reactive repair activities. The PM Technician also provides technical guidance, training, and support to Maintenance Technicians Levels I-III.
Responsibilities & Duties
• Perform all activities associated with Maintenance Technician I-III and Preventative Maintenance roles.
• Train Maintenance Technicians I-III to ensure proper procedures and best practices are followed.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation related issues as required.
• Assist Maintenance Technicians I-III with complex repairs and diagnostic activities.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, machine drawings, PLC documentation, and technical manuals.
• Troubleshoot and programing PLC’s and other components.
• Installing and commissioning DC drives, variable frequency drives and temperature controllers.
• Support equipment installation, commissioning, and new projects implementation.
• Perform preventative maintenance to equipment to assure efficient and long-term trouble-free operation.
• Respond to any maintenance and facility emergency that occurs on the off shifts and make necessary corrections.
• Support with external contractors to ensure compliance with safety and quality requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, maintenance effectiveness, and operational efficiency.
• Ensure all PM work orders are completed accurately and on schedule within the ERP system.
• Monitor PM compliance and drive completion rates to established site targets.
• Identify and recommend equipment improvements and upgrades to increase reliability and reduce maintenance costs.
• Follow all site safety policies and procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
• Develop, review and improve troubleshooting guides.
• Perform parameter adjustments for vision inspection systems.
• Lead maintenance improvement projects as assigned.
• Support root cause analysis for recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions
• Develop, review, and improve PM procedures, frequencies, and task lists.
• Promote a proactive maintenance culture focused on reliability, safety, and continuous improvement.
• Support predictive maintenance initiatives including vibration analysis, thermography, power quality monitoring, and other condition monitoring programs.
• Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
• To be eligible for promotion, the Preventive Maintenance Technician must demonstrate the ability to perform all tasks outlined on Colorcon Belen’s Maintenance Technician training matrix for a level one, level two, level three technicians and preventive maintenance technician over a minimum period of 30 days.
• HS Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of (5) years of experience or associate degree with (2) years’ experience required.
• Must be Technician Level III for 1 year.
• Experience must be in a manufacturing environment in the areas of facility maintenance and repair, equipment installation.
• Must be able to perform all tasks of levels one, two and three maintenance technicians.
• Must be able to train employees on levels one, two and three requirements.
• Proficient use of electrical and mechanical hand and tools required.
• Requires the ability to lift 60 lbs., climb ladders and work at heights 10-20 feet above plant floor.
• Trade experience preferred.
• Must be able to read, interpret and create basic ladder logic diagrams.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.
• Strong working knowledge of sensors, VFDs, and industrial automation systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to become versed in all trades.
• Effective communication skills with fluency in English required.
• Flexibility to daily roles required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other ERP software.
• On call weekend rotation, typically once a month, and flexibility with team required.
• Strong facilities troubleshooting and repair skills required.
Working Location
• This position is 100% onsite, based at Belen, NM manufacturing site.
