Position Summary

The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that aerospace components and manufacturing processes meet customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements. This position works closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, and customers to identify quality issues, implement corrective actions, improve processes, and maintain compliance with aerospace quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality processes and procedures for aerospace manufacturing operations.
  • Support production by identifying, investigating, and resolving product and process quality issues.
  • Perform root cause analysis.
  • Lead corrective and preventive action (CAPA) activities and verify effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, inspection requirements, and customer quality requirements.
  • Develop and maintain Control Plans, PFMEAs, Inspection Plans, and work instructions.
  • Support First Article Inspection (FAI) activities in accordance with AS9102 requirements.
  • Analyze nonconforming material and work with production teams to determine appropriate disposition.
  • Assist with internal, customer, and third-party quality audits.
  • Monitor quality metrics, scrap, rework, defects, and customer complaints to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Utilize statistical process control (SPC) and other quality tools to monitor and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Work with suppliers to resolve quality issues and improve supplier performance.
  • Participate in new product introduction (NPI), process validation, and manufacturing process development.
  • Review inspection data and utilize measurement equipment such as CMMs, calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, and other precision inspection equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, FAA, customer, and other applicable aerospace requirements.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Process Engineers to implement process improvements and reduce variation.
  • Maintain accurate quality documentation and records within the company's quality management system.
  • Provide technical support and training to production and inspection personnel.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Quality Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing or aerospace environment.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, engineering drawings, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • Experience with FAI/AS9102 requirements preferred.
  • Ability to interpret inspection reports and manufacturing data.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with CNC machining, sheet metal, composites, precision machining, or aerospace assemblies.
  • Experience with CMM inspection and metrology.
  • Experience with Minitab or other statistical analysis software.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP and quality management systems.
  • Experience conducting internal or supplier audits.
