Job Title: Chemical Regulatory & Compliance Engineer

Location: El Segundo, CA (Onsite)
Job Duration: 6+m Contract

Compensation: $35 - $40 Hourly on W2.


Primary Skills:

  • 2–3 years of relevant professional experience
  • Experience in global chemical regulatory compliance and restricted substances management (within the toy, children's products, or broader consumer products industry)
  • Experience/Familiarity with global chemical regulations applicable to common consumer-product materials (including polymers, coatings, adhesives, inks, textiles, and packaging materials)
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Core Skills: Excellent research, analytical, problem-solving, and written communication skills.
  • Mission Alignment: Demonstrated passion for protecting children and helping create safe, trusted experiences.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with regulatory databases, chemical declarations, supplier compliance programs, or product stewardship initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Regulatory Monitoring & Analysis: Research, monitor, and summarize emerging global, federal, state, and regional laws, regulations, and standards related to chemicals and restricted substances in children's and consumer products (e.g., TSCA, REACH, Prop. 65, and other applicable regulations).
  • Policy Maintenance: Incorporate relevant regulatory requirements into Mattel's internal procedures and maintain the company's Restricted Substances List (RSL).
  • Technical Material Reviews: Review the chemical composition of existing and new materials (MSDS or Bills of Substances) against the Mattel RSL and provide technical assessments and recommendations.
  • Compliance Reporting: Ensure chemical reporting regulatory compliance with applicable federal and state laws.
  • Process & Database Enhancement: Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to advance Mattel's chemical management database system and improve consistency and efficiency in addressing chemical compliance and product safety matters.

Summary:

  • We are seeking a motivated, analytical, and detail-oriented Chemical Regulatory & Compliance Engineer to join Mattel's Product Safety, Regulatory & Compliance team. This role offers a unique opportunity to support Mattel's chemical regulatory compliance program and contribute to the protection of children through safe and compliant products. In this position, you will help navigate the evolving global chemical regulatory landscape and support efforts to ensure Mattel products comply with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
