Job Title: General Labor – Sheet Metal Fabrication (2nd Shift)

Job Description

This full-time, long-term contract-to-hire role is based in a clean manufacturing environment within the sheet metal fabrication department. You will train on 1st shift and then move to 2nd shift, working Monday through Friday and currently averaging 40 hours per week. In this position, you will help fabricate custom sheet metal products to customer specifications using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the sheet metal fabrication department to cut, shape, and form sheet metal products according to customer specifications and work instructions.
  • Select appropriate sheet metal size, color, and dimensions based on job requirements and documented instructions.
  • Operate fabrication equipment such as roll forming machines, press brakes (CNC and manual), and other forming tools to produce quality parts.
  • Use hand tools including tape measures and tin snips on a daily basis to measure, cut, and trim sheet metal accurately.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and basic drawings to understand product requirements and fabrication steps.
  • Perform general labor and production assembly tasks related to sheet metal fabrication and product assembly.
  • Assist with shaping and forming sheet metal products, ensuring proper fit, finish, and structural integrity.
  • Utilize power tools and fabrication tools safely and efficiently during cutting, grinding, and forming operations.
  • Support welding and grinding activities as needed to complete fabricated components and assemblies.
  • Follow all work instructions, safety procedures, and quality standards to maintain a safe and productive work area.
  • Collaborate with team members in a small department setting to meet daily production goals and customer deadlines.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including routine housekeeping around fabrication equipment and workstations.

Essential Skills

  • Experience performing general labor tasks in a manufacturing, construction, or fabrication environment.
  • Ability to use hand tools such as tape measures, tin snips, and basic assembly tools accurately and safely.
  • Comfort working with sheet metal, including cutting, shaping, forming, and handling metal materials on a daily basis.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints or drawings to understand fabrication requirements.
  • Familiarity with power tools used in fabrication and assembly, such as grinders and other cutting or shaping tools.
  • Experience or aptitude for operating fabrication equipment such as press brakes and roll forming machines.
  • Strong attention to detail when measuring, cutting, and assembling parts to meet precise specifications.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions and adhere to safety and quality standards.
  • Reliability in working a consistent 2nd shift schedule, Monday through Friday, after training on 1st shift.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, handle sheet metal materials, and perform repetitive fabrication tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Completion of a course or training program in HVAC or welding is highly beneficial.
  • Exposure to welding processes and basic grinding techniques in a fabrication setting.
  • Experience working with press brakes, including CNC and manual machines, in a production environment.
  • Prior work in metal fabrication, production assembly, or similar industrial settings.
  • Ability to work effectively in a small team and communicate clearly with coworkers and supervisors.
  • Willingness to learn new fabrication techniques and equipment as needed.

Work Environment

The role is based in a very clean manufacturing facility within a small fabrication department. The department includes a couple of roll forming machines, a press brake area with one CNC press brake and several manual press brakes, and a dedicated fabrication area. Employees train on 1st shift (6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.) and then move to 2nd shift (2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.), working Monday through Friday for approximately 40 hours per week. Work involves regular use of hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment in a production setting, with an emphasis on safety, organization, and maintaining a neat work area. Dress is typical for a manufacturing environment, requiring practical attire suitable for working around machinery and sheet metal.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saginaw, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
