Job Description
The Shipping and Receiving Associate verifies and records all incoming and outgoing shipments, prepares items for shipment, and maintains accurate inventory records in a clean, organized warehouse environment. This role involves regular use of computers and shipping software, physical handling of packages, and coordination with carriers to ensure timely and accurate delivery of goods.
Responsibilities
- Verify and keep detailed records of all incoming and outgoing shipments using both manual and electronic systems.
- Prepare items and parcels for shipment, ensuring they are properly packaged, labeled, and documented.
- Lift and move packages weighing 40–60 pounds and handle heavy items as required throughout the shift.
- Use a computer for email, accessing internet information, and working with Microsoft Office documents to create entries and maintain an electronic log of incoming and outgoing packages.
- Requisition and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain appropriate inventory levels of packaging and shipping stock.
- Maintain in-house vendor inventory, ensuring accurate counts and proper storage of products.
- Keep a busy loading dock in good order, including organizing labels, equipment, materials, and supplies to support efficient shipping and receiving operations.
- Transport goods using the department truck as needed to support internal and external deliveries.
- Select appropriate carriers and truckers for both domestic and international shipments, based on shipment requirements and timelines.
- Complete all necessary shipping documentation for domestic and international shipments in accordance with company policies and applicable standards.
- Track shipments as needed, monitoring status and resolving issues to ensure on-time delivery.
- Utilize the company’s web-based 3PL (third-party logistics) software system to manage shipping, receiving, and inventory information.
- Follow company policies and procedures, including ISO and applicable government standards, in all shipping and receiving activities.
Essential Skills
- Previous experience in shipping and receiving within a distribution facility.
- Ability to lift and safely handle packages weighing 40 pounds or more on a regular basis.
- Data entry experience, including inventory management tasks and working with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to accurately maintain records of incoming and outgoing shipments in electronic systems.
- Strong attention to detail when verifying shipments, preparing documentation, and updating inventory records.
- Capability to follow established company policies, including ISO and government standards.
- Basic computer proficiency for email, internet use, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Comfort working in a warehouse environment that involves physical tasks and operating around material-handling equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with furniture or high-end furniture products is a plus.
- Forklift or hi-lo operation experience is preferred.
- Expereince in warehouse operations, including stock handling and inventory control, is beneficial.
- Familiarity with third-party logistics (3PL) software systems is an advantage.
- Experience coordinating with carriers for domestic and international shipments is helpful.

Work Environment
You work in a clean, bright, and organized warehouse that stores high-end furniture and products associated with commercial and government contracts. The environment is structured and safety-conscious, with well-maintained loading docks, labels, equipment, materials, and supplies. The role follows a first-shift schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., providing a consistent daytime work pattern. You may work around and occasionally operate material-handling equipment such as forklifts and a department truck, while adhering to company policies, ISO guidelines, and applicable government standards.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of WARREN, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.00 - $18.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
