Job Description
This role focuses on setting up, optimizing, and troubleshooting injection molding processes in a fast-paced plastics manufacturing environment. You will work hands-on with injection molding machines, hot runner systems, and related equipment to ensure consistent product quality, minimize downtime, and support continuous improvement initiatives across the production floor.
Responsibilities
- Set up, start, and monitor injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment to meet production requirements.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot process issues such as part defects, machine malfunctions, and hot runner system failures.
- Perform mold changes, machine adjustments, and parameter tuning to maintain consistent product quality and cycle times.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to implement process improvements and corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate documentation of process settings, changes, and maintenance activities.
- Conduct root cause analysis on recurring issues and implement long-term corrective solutions.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and production standards at all times.
- Train operators and junior technicians on proper machine operation, troubleshooting techniques, and best practices.
- Troubleshoot molding process issues including flash, short-shots, sinks, splay, and other common defects.
- Assist in performing mold changes and setups within scheduled timeframes using process and cycle sheets.
- Program molding cell robot arms and work cell assembly station equipment as required.
- Change out, purge, and maintain material and central material feed systems as needed.
- Troubleshoot mold problems, develop root cause analysis, and provide quick, permanent corrective actions and minor repairs.
- Coordinate mold setup activities with production schedules to minimize downtime and maximize production efficiency.
- Use hand and power tools, as well as basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting techniques, to support equipment reliability.
- Apply preventive maintenance practices to reduce unplanned downtime and extend equipment life.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in injection molding with hands-on troubleshooting and process optimization.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in injection molding manufacturing.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a process technician in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of hot runner systems, mold setup, and thermoplastic materials.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, diagrams, schematics, machine manuals, and process documentation.
- Experience troubleshooting molding process issues such as flash, short-shots, sinks, and splay.
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools used in mechanical and electrical maintenance.
- Experience with preventive maintenance, installation, service, and repair of industrial equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems, including PLC control and PLC troubleshooting, at a basic level.
- Familiarity with pneumatics and conduit work in an industrial setting.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience working with industrial machinery.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Flexibility to work 2nd and 3rd shift hours as needed, including an off-shift schedule.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Technical certification or associate degree in manufacturing, plastics, or mechanical technology is preferred.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
- At least 1 year of experience in a mold setup role is preferred.
- At least 1 year of experience working with diagrams, blueprints, schematics, gauges, and measuring instruments.
- At least 1 year of experience troubleshooting mold problems and implementing permanent corrective actions.
- General computer skills, including typing and use of Microsoft 365 or similar software.
- Experience with construction or industrial environments is beneficial.
- Ability to interpret and work from electrical blueprints and schematics.
- Comfort working with both mechanical and electrical aspects of industrial equipment.

Work Environment
This position is based in a plastics industrial environment with closed-door climate control, providing a comfortable and stable working temperature. The facility uses new injection molding machinery and equipment in a warehouse-style setting. Operations currently run in a shared space with plans to expand into the full facility as the company grows. The role supports an off-shift schedule and requires flexibility to work 2nd and 3rd shifts. Standard shift hours are Monday through Friday, with 1st shift from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, 2nd shift from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, and 3rd shift from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM. You will work around industrial plastics processing equipment, robot arms, and assembly stations in a production-focused environment where safety and cleanliness are emphasized.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Evansville, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $29.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
