Job Title: Instrument Test Technician 2
Work Location: Milpitas, CA 95035
Pay Rate: $28.00 - $32.00/hr
Schedule Time: Monday - Friday; 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM.
Position Summary:
- Conducts production testing of assembled flow cytometers and related medical device products. May integrate systems and conduct a variety of electronic, mechanical, optical, fluidic, and electromechanical activities on systems, subassemblies, and parts to ensure unit functions according to specifications.
- Expected to perform system-level and subassembly-level troubleshooting to determine root cause and implement correction of assembly or material defects.
- Responsible for producing quality products on schedule.
- Typically works on moderately difficult assignments, applies detailed technical knowledge, uses independent judgment for most activities, and employs a high degree of initiative.
- Must be able to work in a team-oriented atmosphere with assemblers, technicians, QA personnel, and engineers, completing tasks and communicating effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Perform instrument optimization functions after final assembly: laser alignment, pressure adjustments, electrical adjustments, etc.
- Perform final production testing and inspection to ensure products meet performance specifications and standards.
- Analyze test results on defective units to determine root cause of failure. Frequently requires engineering support to resolve complex and unique problems.
- Replace or repair defective components or assemblies, process appropriate paperwork, and potentially return units to assembly for repair.
- Compare test results with specifications, record test data, plot test results, and generate required documentation to complete the Device History Record (DHR).
- Read and understand detailed test instructions, assembly instructions, work orders, test results, Bills of Materials, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and all other documentation.
- Confer with engineers, technicians, and production personnel regarding testing procedures and results. Determine, develop, and document troubleshooting techniques.
- Provide feedback on production/test methods and product design issues; continuously strive to improve product quality and operational efficiency.
- Provide support to project teams focused on quality improvement, cost reduction, cycle time reduction, reliability improvement, or new product introductions.
- Assist in creating and updating process and product documentation.
- Collect and document key measurements and data; review metrics regularly to improve individual and group performance.
- Fill out time sheets and all required paperwork accurately and on time, and keep training files up to date.
- Keep work area clean, organized, and safe.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Experience testing and troubleshooting: laser-based optical systems, fluidic systems, digital, and analog circuitry.
- Experienced in the use of Digital Voltmeters (DVMs), Logic Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, and general test equipment.
- Extensive knowledge of PCs and networking environments, including strong experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and Windows/MAC OS.
- Strong knowledge of and exposure to ISO 9000 and cGMP 21 CFR part 820.
- Knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing, Six Sigma tools and concepts, and Demand Flow Technology (DFT).
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts (probability, statistical inference, plane/solid geometry) and apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions both verbally and in writing.
- Good mechanical aptitude, dexterity, and hand/eye coordination.
- Knowledge of and adherence to safety procedures and programs.
- Must be willing to be trained in other areas of production where skill level requirements may be lower.
Education and Experience:
- Associate's degree (A.S.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
- 3+ years of related experience in a high-tech, manufacturing environment.
- Experience working in a medical device manufacturing organization is required.
Additional Information:
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to reach, bend, and lift 35 lbs on a daily basis.
