About Us

Southcoast Acoustical Interiors, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Certified Payroll Specialist to join our team. This position is responsible for the accurate preparation, processing, and submission of certified payroll documentation for public works and prevailing wage projects.

The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of California prevailing wage requirements, union payroll and fringe benefit reporting, certified payroll compliance, and construction payroll practices. This is a highly detail-oriented position where accuracy, timeliness, confidentiality, and the ability to independently manage large amounts of payroll data are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and submit weekly certified payroll reports for public works and prevailing wage projects.
  • Ensure certified payroll documentation is complete, accurate, timely, and compliant with applicable California prevailing wage, DIR, federal, and local requirements.
  • Enter and maintain payroll and employee information in certified payroll systems, including LCPtracker and DIR-related reporting systems.
  • Review employee classifications, wage rates, fringe benefits, overtime, double time, and other applicable wage requirements to ensure proper reporting.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies involving employee hours, classifications, wage rates, fringe benefits, deductions, and payroll records.
  • Maintain organized records and supporting documentation required for certified payroll audits and government compliance.
  • Prepare and submit monthly union fringe benefit reports and payments.
  • Coordinate with payroll, project management, field personnel, and union representatives to obtain and verify accurate timekeeping and employee information.
  • Monitor project-specific payroll requirements and ensure all required documentation is submitted within established deadlines.
  • Assist with responding to compliance questions, audits, and requests for documentation from government agencies, unions, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of employee payroll, wage, personnel, and company information.
  • Identify potential compliance issues and bring them to management's attention promptly.
  • Perform other payroll and administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Required: 2+ years of certified payroll experience, preferably within the construction industry.
  • Experience working with prevailing wage, public works, and/or union payroll requirements.
  • Strong understanding of California prevailing wage and wage-and-hour requirements.
  • Familiarity with California DIR certified payroll requirements and public works compliance.
  • Experience preparing certified payroll reports through systems such as LCPtracker.
  • Familiarity with Points North preferred.
  • Experience with union fringe benefit reporting and remittance preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including sorting, filtering, formulas, and working with large amounts of data.
  • Strong sense of phone etiquette.
  • Excellent data-entry skills with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet strict weekly and monthly deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with project management, payroll, field personnel, unions, and outside agencies.
  • Ability to handle confidential employee and company information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Construction industry experience is strongly preferred.

Ideal Candidate

Experience with California public works, prevailing wage, union requirements, LCPtracker, DIR, and Points North will be highly valued.
