The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with large amounts of transactional data and will have the ability to connect supplier costs, customer pricing, discounts, freight, fees, commissions, and other costs to determine the actual profitability of products, customers, and sales channels.

This person will work closely with management to identify margin opportunities, recommend pricing changes, evaluate supplier/customer pricing relationships, and help establish pricing strategies that improve overall profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Pricing & Margin Analysis — Primary Responsibility

  • Analyze product costs and selling prices across:
    • E-commerce
    • Distribution customers
    • Dealer network
    • Direct customers
    • Other sales channels
  • Compare current supplier costs against customer selling prices and determine resulting gross margins.
  • Monitor changes in supplier pricing and evaluate the impact on product and customer profitability.
  • Identify products, customers, and channels with declining or inadequate margins.
  • Recommend pricing increases based on changes in product costs, desired margins, competitive considerations, and historical pricing.
  • Develop and maintain pricing and margin analysis tools/reports.
  • Analyze profitability by SKU, customer, customer type, sales channel, and product category.
  • Evaluate the impact of customer discounts, rebates, promotions, commissions, freight, marketplace fees, payment processing fees, and other selling costs on actual profitability.
  • Analyze pricing and margin implications of new products and new customer opportunities.
  • Provide management with recommendations for improving gross margin and overall profitability.
  • Monitor pricing exceptions and identify situations where products or customers are being sold below target margins.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining pricing policies and target margins.

Accounting & Financial Operations

  • Manage accounts payable and vendor invoices.
  • Manage accounts receivable, customer invoices, payments, and collections.
  • Perform bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Reconcile customer and vendor accounts.
  • Assist with month-end close.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger records.
  • Assist with bookkeeping and financial statement preparation.
  • Assist with inventory and cost-of-goods-sold reconciliation.
  • Reconcile sales between e-commerce platforms, payment processors, distributors, and the accounting system.
  • Assist with sales tax and other routine accounting requirements.
  • Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate supporting documentation and financial records.

Reporting & Analysis

Prepare recurring and ad hoc reports including:

  • Gross margin by SKU
  • Gross margin by customer
  • Gross margin by sales channel
  • Gross margin by product category
  • Customer profitability
  • Channel profitability
  • Pricing variance analysis
  • Supplier cost changes
  • Price increases/decreases and their impact
  • Sales and margin trends
  • Actual vs. budget/target margin
  • Product cost and pricing history
  • Accounts receivable aging
  • Accounts payable aging
  • Inventory and COGS analysis

Qualifications

Required:

  • 3+ years of accounting, financial analysis, cost accounting, or related experience.
