Box Truck Driver - CDL Preferred
Job Description
A Box Truck Driver safely transports goods to customers, businesses, or distribution centers using a box truck. This role includes loading and unloading cargo, planning delivery routes, completing delivery records, inspecting the vehicle, and providing professional customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a box truck while following traffic laws and company procedures.
- Load, secure, transport, and unload merchandise without damage.
- Complete scheduled pickups and deliveries accurately and on time.
- Verify shipment contents against invoices, manifests, or delivery documents.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Report accidents, delays, cargo damage, and mechanical problems promptly.
- Maintain accurate mileage, fuel, inspection, and delivery records.
- Communicate professionally with dispatchers, customers, and warehouse staff.
- Keep the truck's cab and cargo area clean and organized.
- Use hand trucks, pallet jacks, lift gates, straps, and other delivery equipment.
- Follow workplace safety, weight-limit, and cargo-securement requirements.
- Collect signatures, payments, or proof of delivery when required.
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license with a clean or acceptable driving record.
- Commercial driver's license (CDL) is preferred.
- Previous delivery or commercial driving experience preferred.
- Ability to read maps, use GPS, and follow delivery instructions.
- Strong time management, communication, and customer-service skills.
- Ability to pass applicable background checks, drug screenings, and driving-record reviews.
- Knowledge of basic vehicle inspections and cargo-securement practices.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit and drive for extended periods.
- Ability to repeatedly lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50-75 pounds, depending on the employer.
- Ability to climb into and out of the truck and work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to bend, reach, kneel, and operate loading equipment safely.
Typical Work Environment
The position may involve local or regional routes, frequent stops, warehouse or customer-site deliveries, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and exposure to changing road and weather conditions. A box truck driver may work independently while maintaining regular communication with dispatch.
