JOB SUMMARY

Lead/Assistant Teacher


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Lead Teacher Only

Provides a stimulating, safe and developmentally appropriate educational environment. Responsible for daily planning, management and supervision of the classroom, children and classroom staff.

Reports to: Academy Director

• Plans, manages and supervises the classroom and children daily

• Creates developmentally appropriate activities to encourage curiosity, exploration and problem solving

• Directs and supervises Assistant Teacher(s) and aides in the classroom

• Prepares and implements classroom lesson plans, programs and schedules

• Schedules and conducts parent-teacher conferences; maintains open family communication

• Maintains Family Information Board and classroom bulletin boards

• Ensures all state licensing regulations are followed

• Completes all Academy paperwork: daily notes, accident and attendance reports

• Meets with prospective families; assists with Academy-wide events and monthly newsletter

• Assists in evaluating classroom personnel


Assistant Teacher Only

Provides classroom support for the Lead Teacher by preparing materials, supervising children and assisting with daily management and instruction, as directed by the Lead Teacher.

Reports to: Lead Teacher, Academy Director

• Supports Lead Teacher in daily classroom management and supervision

• Prepares instructional materials and assists with lesson plan implementation

• Assists children during activities, mealtimes and cleanup

• Assists with all classroom paperwork: daily notes, accident and attendance reports

• Reports concerns to Lead Teacher or Academy Director promptly

• Accepts temporary full classroom responsibility in absence of Lead Teacher


Responsibilities shared by all classroom staff:

• Ensures children's physical, social and emotional needs are met daily

• Maintains classroom cleanliness and safety per NAEYC cleaning and sanitizing guidelines

• Ensures all classroom and outdoor equipment are in good working condition and properly maintained

• Attends staff meetings, Academy events, parent meetings and required in-service training

• Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs to waist height consistently throughout the workday

• Performs other similar or related duties as assigned


JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• Must meet all Washington state and local licensing requirements for the position

• Assistant Teacher: High school diploma or equivalent; must be 18 years of age or enrolled in a childcare work-study program

• Lead Teacher: Must meet DCYF education and experience requirements; ECE certificate required within 5 years of hire per Washington state law

• Clear background check and all required state medical requirements must be satisfied prior to employment

• Must complete required annual training hours per Washington state licensing requirements
