Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM–3:00 PM; Friday, 6:00 AM–12:00 PM
Pay Rate: $24.00/hour on w2 (All inclusive)

Position Summary

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform a variety of laboratory procedures in compliance with CGMP regulations as they apply to the conduct of nonclinical research studies. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, accurate documentation skills, and the ability to work effectively in a busy research environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily test article/substance administration, observation, and recording of physical signs of species for contracted laboratory studies.
  • Prepare cage tags and individual animal number tags, as well as prepare and autoclave cages.
  • Prepare data forms for routine study procedures and assist with forms for specialized procedures.
  • Record study parameters accurately and in accordance with study protocols.
  • Ensure adequate supplies of dosage equipment throughout the course of studies.
  • Assist with maintaining supplies and materials required for specific studies, including blood collection tubes.
  • Assist with preparation of test agents.
  • Generate periodic data summaries.
  • Ensure raw data records are accurate, complete, properly organized, and compliant with protocol specifications and/or CGMP requirements.
  • Assist project managers and technical staff with the planning and conduct of studies.
  • Assist with coordinating departmental activities through hands-on technical support and communication with animal production and laboratory personnel.
  • Occasionally delegate activities to other animal production/laboratory personnel as needed.
  • Help maintain appropriate inventory levels of departmental supplies.
  • Maintain proficiency in all departmental SOPs and develop general knowledge of laboratory and production processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Must Have

  • This role involves working directly with animals. Candidates must be comfortable handling animals such as mice, guinea pigs, and similar laboratory species.
  • A respirator fit test may be required, based on the manager's assessment.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a laboratory environment involving animal handling, biological samples, and required PPE.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate's degree (A.A./A.S.) or equivalent in Biological Sciences or a related discipline.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience:

  • 1–2 years of related technical experience preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specified education and experience.

Certification/Licensure:

  • ALAT certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move throughout the laboratory, communicate effectively, and operate a computer.
  • Frequently remain stationary while performing laboratory tasks.
  • Regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and adjustment of focus.
  • Ability to properly use required PPE, including gloves, protective clothing, and eye protection.

Work Environment

This position works in a busy research environment and may involve:

  • Handling laboratory animals, including mice and guinea pigs.
  • Use of sharp objects and exposure to mechanical parts.
  • Working with or near known or unknown toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Exposure to fumes and airborne particles.
  • Handling biological samples with potential exposure to zoonotic diseases and biohazards.
  • A low to moderate noise level depending on the task being performed.
  • Respirator use may be required following manager assessment and applicable fit-testing requirements.
