Position Overview

We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support a busy family-law practice. The ideal candidate is organized, professional, compassionate with clients, and able to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment. This role provides direct administrative and legal-support assistance in divorce, custody, child-support, and related domestic-relations matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, format, proofread, file, and serve routine legal documents, correspondence, discovery, and court materials.
  • Maintain electronic and physical case files, including pleadings, exhibits, discovery, correspondence, and client records.
  • Calendar court dates, filing deadlines, meetings, and internal follow-up tasks; monitor deadlines and provide timely reminders.
  • Communicate professionally and sensitively with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and third-party providers.
  • Assist with client intake, document collection, appointment scheduling, and follow-up communications.
  • Organize financial records, discovery materials, and exhibits for attorney review.
  • Coordinate filings and service of process, including electronic filing where applicable.
  • Support hearing, mediation, deposition, and trial preparation.
  • Enter and maintain accurate information in the firm’s practice-management and document-management systems.
  • Protect confidential client information and follow all firm procedures and ethical obligations.

Required Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a legal assistant, legal secretary, paralegal, or comparable administrative professional; family-law experience is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work under deadline.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PDF-editing software.
  • Ability to learn and use legal case-management, calendaring, and e-filing systems.
  • Professional judgment, discretion, reliability, and a client-service mindset.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with attorneys and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting divorce, parenting-plan, child-custody, child-support, or other domestic-relations matters.
  • Familiarity with court filing procedures and local family-court practice.
  • Experience preparing discovery, organizing financial documents, and assembling hearing or trial exhibits.
