Job Description
This is a key position within Power Dynamics Innovations' infrastructure, supporting every aspect of the company's projects and shop divisions. This role maintains equipment, improves efficiency, and develops new machine parts to support Power Dynamics Innovations' network and operations.
What you will be doing:
- Working with manual machining processes using mills and lathes
- Working on and understanding One CNC software (or equivalent) to program piece setup on CNC machines
- Produce new or repair precision parts using both manual and automated equipment and accurate measurements
- Apply mathematics and mechanics, as well as perform precision measurements using micrometers and calipers
- Assist in creating or enhancing effective production operations and optimizing procedures
- Review samples, drawings, or instructions to understand specifications of output
- Select appropriate machines (e.g., lathes) and position or load material for a job.
- Determine and program the size of batches, speed of machine, etc.
- Monitor the machine while working to adjust the feed, maintain the temperature, and identify issues
- Check output to ensure consistency with specifications
- Keep records of approved and defective units or final products
- Perform routine machine maintenance and repair minor damages
- Work in a safe, efficient manner while keeping the machine shop clean and organized
What you will need to succeed:
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of proven experience as a machinist
- Experience in using One CNC and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, mills, grinders, etc.)
- Ability to use precision tools (e.g., calipers) to take accurate measurements
- Knowledge of the properties of metal and other materials
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals
- Good at math with analytical abilities
- Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of vocational training or an apprenticeship in machining will be an asset
