We are looking for a talented Electrical Engineer with strong experience in transformer and inductor design, development, and testing.
Position Summary
The Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, analysis, development, testing, and continuous improvement of dry type transformers and inductors. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of electromagnetic design principles, transformer manufacturing processes, industry standards, and product testing procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop Dry Type Transformers, Inductors, Reactors, and related magnetic components.
- Perform electrical, magnetic, thermal, and mechanical calculations for new product designs.
- Prepare design documentation including drawings, bill of materials (BOM), specifications, and manufacturing instructions.
- Develop and optimize transformer winding configurations, core selections, insulation systems, and cooling methods.
- Conduct prototype validation and performance testing.
- Analyze test results and implement design improvements.
- Ensure products comply with applicable standards including IEEE, ANSI, UL, CSA, NEMA, and IEC.
- Support manufacturing teams during production, assembly, and troubleshooting activities.
- Investigate product failures and perform root cause analysis.
- Work closely with customers and sales teams to evaluate technical requirements and prepare customized solutions.
- Participate in product cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical support for quality, production, and field issues.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in transformer, reactor, or magnetic component design or able to train the right candidate.
- Strong understanding of:
- Electromagnetic theory
- Transformer design principles
- Core materials and magnetic circuits
- Winding design and insulation systems
- Thermal performance and loss calculations
- Experience with Dry Type Transformers and Inductors.
- Knowledge of transformer testing procedures including:
- Turns Ratio Test (TTR)
- Winding Resistance Test
- Insulation Resistance (Megger)
- Hi-Pot Testing
- Load and No-Load Loss Testing
- Temperature Rise Testing
- Partial Discharge Testing
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering calculation tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with magnetic design software such as:
- Ansys Maxwell
- FEMM
- Magnetics Designer
- Flux
- Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Inventor.
- Knowledge of UL, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, and IEC transformer standards.
- Experience in custom transformer manufacturing environments.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
