Position Summary

The Transitional House Assistant supports the Transitional House Coordinator in the daily operations of the House of Refuge. This position helps maintain a safe, clean, structured, and welcoming environment while assisting residents as they work toward stability and self-sufficiency. The Assistant also provides transportation for residents to approved appointments, employment, educational opportunities, and other program-related activities. This position works in a residential setting and may require occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, or on-call assistance based on programming needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Transitional House Coordinator with the day-to-day operations of the House of Refuge.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming living environment.
  • Support the intake and orientation process for new residents.
  • Assist with monitoring resident compliance with program guidelines, curfews, and house expectations.
  • Encourage residents in achieving their individualized goals and maintaining personal responsibility.
  • Provide transportation for residents to approved appointments, employment, educational programs, counseling, recovery meetings, and other program-related activities.
  • Conduct routine house checks and report maintenance or safety concerns to the Transitional House Coordinator.
  • Assist with inventory of household supplies and notify the House Coordinator when items need to be replenished.
  • Support life skills activities, group meetings, and resident programming as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established safety procedures.
  • Support other program related tasks as assigned by House Coordinator.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, to stand, walk, bend, and climb stairs frequently.
  • Ability to transport residents safely using agency vehicles.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, social services, or residential programs preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to establish healthy professional boundaries while demonstrating compassion and respect.
  • Valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to safely operate a passenger vehicle.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Basic computer and documentation skills.


Hours may vary weekday, evenings, and weekends. Pay is based on education and experience.
