Position Summary
Keys of Life, LLC is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and experienced Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC/s) to provide substance use disorder counseling and support services to individuals participating in our treatment programs.
The CSAC will work as part of the clinical team to facilitate groups, provide individual counseling and support, maintain timely clinical documentation, assist with treatment planning, coordinate client care, and support clients throughout the recovery process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate substance use disorder treatment and psychoeducational groups in accordance with the client's treatment plan and program requirements.
- Provide individual counseling and support sessions to assigned clients within the CSAC's professional scope.
- Maintain an assigned caseload and monitor client participation and progress.
- Complete progress notes and other required clinical documentation accurately and within established deadlines.
- Participate in the development and updating of individualized treatment plans.
- Assist with discharge planning and complete required discharge documentation.
- Identify client needs, barriers to treatment, relapse risks, and appropriate community resources.
- Coordinate client care with the Clinical Director, Managing Clinician, administrative staff, peer support staff, and other members of the treatment team.
- Communicate concerns regarding client safety, behavior, attendance, clinical status, or treatment compliance promptly to appropriate supervisory staff.
- Participate in treatment-team meetings, clinical meetings, trainings, and supervision as required.
- Assist clients with developing relapse-prevention strategies, coping skills, recovery goals, and healthy support systems.
- Provide substance use education related to addiction, recovery, triggers, relapse prevention, life skills, and behavioral change.
- Maintain professional boundaries and protect client confidentiality.
- Follow Keys of Life policies and procedures regarding documentation, communication, attendance, client care, and professional conduct.
- Comply with applicable DBHDS, Medicaid, HIPAA, and other regulatory requirements related to services provided.
- Complete additional duties related to client care and program operations as assigned within the scope of the position.
Documentation Expectations
The CSAC is expected to:
- Complete clinical documentation promptly following services.
- Ensure documentation accurately reflects the service provided and the client's response.
- Submit required documentation within Keys of Life's established weekly deadlines.
- Maintain treatment plans, progress notes, individual-session documentation, discharge summaries, and other required records.
- Correct documentation deficiencies promptly when identified by clinical leadership.
Qualifications
- Current Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC/s) credential recognized in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders preferred.
- Experience providing group counseling or substance use education preferred.
- Knowledge of addiction, recovery principles, relapse prevention, treatment planning, and community resources.
- Knowledge of professional ethics, confidentiality requirements, and appropriate clinical boundaries.
- Ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Must successfully complete all required background checks, screenings, and employment requirements established by Keys of Life.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working in an ASAM 2.1 Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), ASAM 2.5 PHP or similar behavioral health setting.
- Experience with Medicaid-funded behavioral health services.
- Familiarity with Virginia DBHDS requirements.
- Experience working with adults experiencing substance use, mental health, housing, or other recovery-related challenges.
