Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Contract Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team, providing essential blood collection and specimen handling services in various clinical settings. Key responsibilities include performing venipuncture and capillary blood sampling, maintaining strict aseptic techniques, accurately documenting patient information, and ensuring proper specimen processing. The Contract Phlebotomist will collaborate with healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient service and uphold laboratory standards.
Duties
- Collect blood specimens via venipuncture and skin puncture techniques with precision and adherence to safety protocols.
- Ensure proper labeling, handling, and transportation of specimens to maintain integrity and prevent contamination.
- Follow established laboratory procedures for specimen processing, storage, and documentation.
- Assist in obtaining vital signs and patient information to support clinical assessments.
- Maintain a clean, organized work environment while adhering to infection control standards.
- Utilize Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems for accurate data entry and documentation.
- Provide compassionate patient care by explaining procedures clearly and addressing patient concerns professionally.
- Support laboratory staff with specimen processing tasks as needed, including centrifugation or aliquoting.
- Observe safety protocols such as heavy lifting precautions, proper disposal of sharps, and aseptic techniques.
- Participate in ongoing training related to physiology knowledge, anatomy, pediatrics, geriatrics, and medical terminology.
Requirements
- Proven experience in laboratory procedures, phlebotomy techniques, or clinical laboratory work.
- Certification or training in phlebotomy or related healthcare fields preferred; CPR/BLS certification required.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and laboratory safety standards.
- Familiarity with hospital environments and EMR/EHR systems for data entry and specimen tracking.
- Ability to perform venipuncture accurately on diverse patient populations including pediatrics and geriatrics.
- Strong customer service skills with a professional approach to patient interactions.
- Physical capability for heavy lifting when necessary and standing for extended periods.
- Attention to detail for specimen collection accuracy and data recording.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with healthcare teams.
