JOB TITLE: Senior Estimator
REPORTS TO: CEO/Chief Estimator
JOB PURPOSE: The basic functions of the Estimator are to: plan, design, determine cost, and document estimates of potential jobs to be bid so that each project or job that is bid and won, can be executed as planned, will produce the desired goal for the client and the desired profit for the Company.

Expectations:
The use of analytical and observational skills which demonstrate abilities to: interact with vendors/suppliers, clients, co-workers, and supervisors, follow company policy, and complete valid estimations with in tight time constraints, sometimes stressful situations, accurately, and in a timely manner.
- Oversee work progress, complete logs, and update supervisors about challenges.
- Write up technical reports, subcontracts, purchase orders, project updates, and proposals.
- Interpret plans and construction materials to propose and double-check estimates.
- Identify and resolve deviations from the proposal, including scope and specifications.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge & Skills:
The use of analytical and observational skills which demonstrate abilities to: professionally & effectively communicate with clients, vendors, suppliers, peers and supervisors, follow company policy, interact with clients, and accurately, and in a timely manner, complete valid estimations in sometimes stressful situations.
- Basic electrical engineering, load calculation & design.
- Knowledge & understanding of lighting
- Management/leadership experience with teams of three or more
- Excellent quantitative and analytical skills.
- Advanced understanding of the electrical industry.
- Progressive approach to problem solving.
- Ability to read & interpret plans/blue prints
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- High level computer skills; ability to create Excel spreadsheets, full proficiency with Microsoft Office software, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook.
Education:
Required: High school or equivalent. Trade school or Junior College (AA) degree, or completion of an electrician training program.
Preferred: Four year degree in electrical engineering, construction management or related field is suggested
Experience:
Minimum: Five years’ experience in construction or electrical companies and
two years in the estimating function of such companies.
Preferred: Five years or more in the electrical construction or general
construction industry, which should include at least three years of
estimating experience.
Working conditions:
- Fast-paced environment requiring flexibility, adaptability and resilience in a wide variety of work situations.
- Nature of business results in many tight or continually changing deadlines.
- General office environment, with low to medium noise, low to medium heat and cold, and low to medium dust levels.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: As directed by the Chief Estimator, solicit and accept invitations from clients to bid projects.
- Be available to complete any estimating task, as and when needed.
- Continually review all materials and labor costs that to be used in estimations.
- Adhere to all established estimating standards and procedures to protect the interests of the Company and seek out opportunities to improve methods, processes, procedures, and suppliers to best benefit the company.
- As and when requested, train new employees.
- Submit work or activity reports according to Company policy.
- As and when requested by Project Managers, review estimated material, supplies, and labor cost.
- Maintain good, business-like relations with other trades, vendors/suppliers, and clients.
- Complete all Employee Performance Evaluations for positions reporting to this position in accordance within company policy and in an accurate and timely manner.
- Ensure that all records relating to and flowing through the estimating function, are filed properly and easily accessible only by authorized personnel.
- Protect confidential company data, programs, and information and restrict access only to company employees duly authorized by the president.
- Perform all other tasks, within job requirements, as assigned by the President. Perform Take-off from the plans
- Send out quote requests to our lighting and switchgear vendors.
- Contact suppliers or purchasing department to obtain bids on material needed for each job and estimate total material cost for each new job.
- Set up job manpower for the project and give make up labor, material and quotes
- Once input in made IntelliBid ConEst, estimate is entered in QuickBooks and or Aptora
- After Estimate is written, print out estimate and all quotes and review with the Senior Estimator, or the President, as directed by the Senior Estimator.
- Upon approval of the President, ensure that an email bid is sent to the client/contractor and a summary spreadsheet is created.
- Ensure that bids made from your estimate are tracked to make the estimate was received.
- Respond to daily emails
- Be available to complete any estimating task, as and when needed.
- Continually review all materials and labor costs used in estimating bids.
- Create and save estimates to server
- Adhere to all established estimating standards and procedures to protect the interests of the Company and seek out opportunities to improve methods, processes, procedures, and suppliers to best benefit the company.
- Submit work or activity reports according to Company policy.
- As and when requested by any field supervisor, review estimated material, supplies, and labor cost.
- Maintain good, business-like relations with other trades, suppliers, contractors and clients.
- Protect and hold confidential company estimating data, programs, and information and only allow access by company employees duly authorized by the President.
