Reproduction-Bindery Equipment Operator – PSH Printing Services


Summary
Responsible to provide labor resources for the operation of high-speed monochrome digital reproduction (copier) equipment and bindery equipment. Responsible for assisting customers, and handling and maintaining related paperwork. Responsibilities


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sets up, adjusts and operates monochrome copiers.
  • Assembles material for delivery.
  • Operates PC desktop computer(s) to receive and print customer files to output devices and check electronic files to ensure that the output is what the customer expects. Scans hard copy to digital files, archives digital files as needed, and modifies digital files if necessary for future printing.
  • Analyzes, processes and follows up reproduction requests by determining methods best suited to produce desired documents.
  • Performs image-editing functions such as archiving digital files, determine and send files to correct printers. Perform graphic functions such as rotation, signature conversion, crop, determine proper page placement with specific instructions to collate with printer and collate end product.
  • Checks make-ready work for accuracy and attractiveness of layout. Brings any questionable work to the attention of management before completing. Proofs printed copy and consult with customer prior to running job in the event of and discrepancies related to the job.
  • Inform customers of copyright laws (to the best of your knowledge) and policies concerning reproduction of pre-printed materials.
  • Sets up, adjusts and operates all finishing/bindery equipment to include, but not limited to, drill, folder, collator/stitcher/folder, paper cutter, shrink wrapper, spiral binder, laminator, padding equipment.
  • Performs basic maintenance on all equipment as required and within standards set by department and within guidelines of any service agreements. Maintains service logs as required by policy and procedure.
  • Produces high quality work within an established production schedule. Organizes work in such manner so that highest production is maintained at all times
  • Knowledge of paper stocks related to their printing, folding and binding characteristics.
  • Fills out all necessary paperwork pertaining to job in order to provide accurate data collection.
  • Before starting job and at all stages during work, ensures that the material adheres to customers’ requirements as well as Printing Services standards.
  • Determines priority for completion of requested jobs and schedules accordingly, keeping in mind any post-press work that may need done in regard to due date.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work process, and work cooperatively and jointly with team members and customers to provide quality seamless customer service and support.
  • Maintains security and secrecy of all confidential material and information handled by Printing Services.
  • Receives, verifies and stores supplies from delivery trucks.
  • Prepares printing materials for shipment and delivery. Fills out required paperwork for shipment. Records and reports copier meters.
  • Inventories stock and supplies, provides list of needed materials to management for review and ordering.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year experience in an in-plant or commercial printing/copier/finishing environment required.
  • 3 years prior experience in a printing environment preferred, especially in the digital reproduction area.
  • Must have knowledge of printing process.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of digital copiers and computers and prior printing or copier experience.
  • Prepress and post-press abilities also preferred.
  • Must be able to interpret written instructions, have basic clerical skills and good communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 70 pounds and be able to stand most of the workday.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment test on basic math skills, especially reading rulers and converting to decimals.
