Job Description
Your role and responsibilities:
Inspect and test parts, products, and systems, and assist in developing the necessary capabilities to control products and systems to meet the internal, customer and industry requirements, in a cost effective and safe working environment. This includes supporting or performing Failure Mode Analysis through Quality tools such as 8D on in-house parts or Returned Material (RMA) from the customer field and assist the local quality team in implementing and maintaining a Quality system, including audits, quality reports, controls, training in tools and methods, and monitoring variation through methods like Statistical Process Charts (SPC).

In this role, you will be on a team of Quality Engineers, Technicians, and Supplier Quality Engineers at the Richmond Virginia site.
You will be mainly accountable for:
Perform incoming inspections and testing on mechanical and electrical parts (i.e.: sheet metal, harness, etc.) from suppliers.
• Utilizes measurement tools or measurement systems (CMM, multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.) to produce data that reflect the accurate characteristics of materials, products, systems, and processes.
• Create dimensional reports, test, and inspection reports per part specifications including variation results and/or SPC through the help of physical and virtual tools.
• Diagnostic and repair electronic or electric parts, if needed and approved by management.
• Ensure suppliers test reports are uploaded into ABB portals and collect the data to build SPC to promote predictive results.
• Investigate and trouble-shoot product defects or failures in-house or from the customer field to determine root cause and suggest corrective actions through 8D or DMAIC methodology. Provides feedback and advises engineering / R&D on improvement opportunities in product and/or process design.
• Process nonconformance material and work with the Supplier Quality Engineers so that supplier corrects their processes or ABB adjust specifications.
• Evaluate suppliers’ documentation (i.e. dimensional reports) vs. physical deliveries to ensure consistency.
• Assists SQE staff to develop test protocols, work instructions, or checklist as necessary to investigate the integrity of new products, or new functionality for existing products.

Qualifications for the role:
Experience inspecting, measuring, and testing mechanical, electrical and/or electronic parts and generating results reports accordingly.
2 to 3 yrs. of experience in quality/manufacturing environments.
Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
Experience working in quality area.
