This is a part-time graveyard shift position in an acute care hospital laboratory. The regular schedule includes every Friday night and every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday), with shift hours from approximately 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM. The role is a registry position that provides coverage for leaves of absence, vacations, and last-minute call-offs, offering exposure to a variety of clinical situations. You will work alongside three other Clinical Laboratory Scientists and 2–3 lab assistants, with a lead on the bench to support workflow and decision-making. The night shift culture is described as very helpful and knowledgeable, with staff supporting one another in a setting that can be stressful at times but often has less specialty work than daytime hours. Most complex and specialty testing occurs during the day, while nights focus on general laboratory work, supporting patient admissions at night and discharges during the day. The training program includes three weeks of structured onboarding: Week 1 on day shift focusing on blood bank (Monday–Friday, approximately 6:30 AM–3:00 PM), Week 2 on evening shift focusing on hematology (Monday–Friday, starting around 2:30 PM), and Week 3 transitioning to the graveyard shift. The environment uses standard clinical laboratory instruments and computer systems, with an emphasis on quality control, preventive maintenance, and accurate documentation in a high-volume, acute care setting.
