ROLE AND PURPOSE:

To diagnose, repair and maintain the custodial equipment used in the Operations Department so that it is operational and available for use in the day-to-day activities of the department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma/GED from an accredited institution, required.
  • Must have valid Texas Driver's License and satisfactory driving record

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience troubleshooting, diagnosing and maintaining custodial equipment preferred
  • Floor care maintenance experience a plus
  • Effective reading, writing, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in operating various motor vehicles, including light delivery vehicles, is required. Experience using material handling equipment, such as dollies, pallet jacks, hand trucks, platform trucks, and forklifts is preferred.
  • Experience with autonomous custodial equipment is preferred. Candidates without direct experience must possess the aptitude, ability, and willingness to learn the operation, maintenance, and repair of autonomous cleaning technologies

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Proficiency and technical knowledge in the repair of custodial equipment

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

I. JOB DUTIES:

  • Follow established AISD safety procedures
  • Abide by all AISD Board policies as well as procedures outlined in the Auxiliary Employee Handbook
  • Ensures custodial equipment is available, maintained, and functioning effectively by assembling and distributing new custodial equipment, providing preventive maintenance and repairs for custodial equipment, and evaluating and recommending the purchase of new custodial equipment.
  • Manage inventory and repair status of equipment- Conducts routine property inventory by physically counting (by property number) various custodial equipment assigned to the department, but not limited to, floor buffers and waxers, vacuum cleaners, and wet/dry vacuums.
  • Ensure equipment is in safe operating condition
  • Maintains appropriate maintenance records by keeping records of all custodial equipment operating hours, preventive maintenance services performed, and repairs completed.
  • Work well in a team environment and independently
  • Test and recommend custodial equipment to be used
  • Prepare, implement and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for custodial equipment
  • Provide training in use of equipment to custodial staff as needed
  • Assume responsibility for care of assigned service vehicles, tools and equipment
  • Assume responsibility for daily directives as given by Lead Equipment Technician
  • Maintain effective communication and rapport within assigned department and with all other areas of contact
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to serve the needs of the District as determined by departmental leadership

II. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • None

III. WORKING CONDITIONS:

Core working hours: 11:00 am to 7:30 pm

MENTAL DEMANDS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS / ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Vacuum, buffer, blower, auto-scrubber, carpet extractor, burnisher and ride-on equipment
  • Posture: Bending or stooping, reaching above shoulder level, working with machinery, driving vehicle and/or equipment, climbing ladders, stairs, ramps scaffolds, mopping
  • Motion: Moderate walking and sitting
  • Lifting: carrying or pushing 76 or more pounds continuously
  • Environment: Majority of work indoors; be prepared for all indoor and outdoor weather conditions
  • Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
