Job Description
The Lab Technician supports a high-volume production laboratory by handling core operational tasks such as organizing glassware, managing reagents, and maintaining a clean and efficient workspace. This role offers a strong entry point into the scientific field, with opportunities to grow into more advanced responsibilities and potentially progress into an Associate Analytical Chemist position based on performance and interest.
Responsibilities
- Organize and put away glassware to ensure the lab remains orderly and ready for daily operations.
- Stock reagents and supplies so that laboratory teams have consistent access to the materials they need.
- Create bulk reagents and bulk mobile phases according to established procedures and quality standards.
- Clean and maintain lab spaces to support safe, efficient, and compliant laboratory operations.
- Log reagents and related information accurately into the laboratory information management system (LIMS).
- Support the monographs team with routine lab tasks and day-to-day operational needs.
- Adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced production lab environment and shift tasks based on business needs.
- After becoming proficient in daily responsibilities, gradually take on simple lab tasks and basic laboratory techniques.
- Contribute to meeting turnaround times for testing by working efficiently and maintaining consistent output.
- Follow documentation requirements carefully and ensure all work is recorded with accuracy and attention to detail.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of experience working in a fast-paced environment such as bartending, food service, manufacturing, or similar roles.
- Strong attention to detail, especially in documentation and record-keeping.
- Comfortable working independently and maintaining productivity with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated reliability and consistency in previous roles, supported by references.
- Interest in working in the science field and learning laboratory processes.
- Basic lab support skills such as sample preparation, solution preparation, and pipetting.
Work Environment
The environment is very fast paced, with priorities that can change daily based on business and client needs, and is viewed as a production lab where meeting testing timeframes is essential. Work can be repetitive depending on the group you support, and you will be expected to switch tasks quickly and manage changing workloads. You will work alongside a large team of laboratory professionals in a well-equipped facility, gaining exposure to routine lab operations, basic instrumentation, and structured documentation practices. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Madison, WI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.50 - $19.50/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
